What makes up an Armored Div?

I’m looking for info on the make up of armored divisions. Types of vechicles that would make up the companies of the 6th armored div. 69th armored reg. during WWII to be specific.

  1. Did the line companies just consist of just combat vechicles or did they have there own support system ie: medics, supply trucks, scouts, mechinics?

  2. If they didn’t have there own support system were did that come from? Was that assigned to HQ company and then HQ company was split up among the line companies?

  3. If all the support was in HQ company what kinds of vechicles were assigned to the HQ company ie: did they have M8 grayhounds, half tracks, deuce and a half trucks, jeeps?

I ask this because I know how a modern armored battilion is made up and I need to know how differnt it’s make up was during WWII. I don’t plan on modeling a complete battilion, but you all know how these things get started.

Not 100% sure if this link will help you or not.

Thanks, Robert
It does help me for the big picture. Maybe what I need to do is take a line company and work from there. Find how many shermans they had what kind and what kind of support they would have had.

A bunch of tanks n’ trucks n’ stuff. [:P]

Thanks, Claymore I don’t know why I didn’t come to you first. (slaps head)[:p]
