I had a topic erlier regarding X-15 kits(1/72), and threw out some new questions in the same thread. I´m not sure that anyone saw that, so I´m starting a new topic.
I´ve been able to find a monogram kit of the X-15 and went to my local hobby shop this afternoon to look for a stratofortress. They had a Revell kit of a B-52D from the Vietnam war.
depends on the size of the X-15. and the fact that the B-52 that dropped the X-15 was a NB-52 you would also have to buy the NB-52 conversion set which I believe has the correct pylon for launching the X-15.
Thanks for the info Mikeym_us, but please fill me in. Is there different sizes of the X-15(I use 1/72)? I belive the monogram kit is a X-15A-2. Is the pylon the only difference on the B-52? I found on the internet that there´s vacum formed adapters for B-52 to mount the X-15 made by Airmodel (#AM-116) and Frank-Modellbau (#FM-16)
I have two of the Monogram “Young Astronaut” kits. I got one of them about ten years ago for US$25. The other I got on Ebay for around $50 with no box. They go for a lot of money these days (the most recent went for $150 in an open box). I was planning to build my no-box kit, but given their value, I would rather take your approach and do a conversion. I have two or three of the individual Monogram X-15’s also. I once saw the conversion sets in a magazine, but I can’t recall the maker or the Mag. If I find it I’ll let you know.
While you’re doing your search, use the term “balls eight” or “balls 8” as the NB’s were nicknamed that way. For example, one of them had the designation NB-0008, hence the term balls eight. The conversion set that I saw used that term.
