What is the best way to paint and weather Fruilmodel tracks?

Hello all.
I just got a set af Fruil tracks and I have never put them together before.
Do I paint them beforeI asemble them or after assembly?
Also what is the best way to weather them?

Thanks.

I paint Friul tracks after assembly. I use .020 brass wire instead of the kit supplied wire. As for painting, I have put the tracks in Blacken-It, which really makes the tracks look good. I also paint the tracks with enamels and then weather with pigments. After you put the tracks on the vehicle, use your finger and rub off some of the paint where the tracks meet the ground. It gives a very realistic appearance. HTH

I agree, definitely paint after assembly!! I usually airbrush them black and then add different shades of browns and yellows, depending on the terrain the tank is supposed to be in. Then add a little rustall and as final step, gently swipe the tracks with very fine sanding paper, just enough to strip the paint from the raised details and expose the natural metal.

I i assemble them with my own wire then i get styrofoam about the length of the track and paint it on that with airbrush and weather

Use Blacken-it…dont leave it in to long and scrub it into the sufrace to ensure good coverage…USE PROTECTIVE GLOVES !!!..

Just wash with black oils after then apply a wash (Use Iso as the mixer) of rust MMP Weathering powders

I guess I’ve just got to be different, I paint after assembly and before installation, usually acrylic gun metal. Then after the track is on the Panzer, I hit it with the weathering, usually a “dust” coat, buff, dirt mixture, just keep misting until I get the effect I want - see below[8)]- Oh by the way, use the straight pins I’ve pictured, they really make life easier when assembling Fruil’s

Happy track building! Steve

I first make the tracks up, then clean them up (the horns) then spray them
once the paints dried i get the wash out and after that i get the powders out
at the end i rub the raised area with very fine wet n dry to get the worn apearence from the metal underneath

oh yeah, then i add them back on the model and add the last pin to hold them in place

hi,

where can i get Blacken-It in the UK??

thanks,

N

Interesting using the straight pins,Crockett.
Do you leave the head on the pin?

as for Blacken it, is that a railroad modelers product?

Thanks

I use Crocketts straight pin method, and em firmly convinced that is the way to go. The head of the pins are left intack as they are on the inside part of the track and not really noticeable. Semper Fi, mike
