I was thinking of buying a PBY catalina in the 1/72 scale ; I’ve seen both the Airfix PBY-5A and the Academy PBY-5A in the Hobby store , which kit is better ? Or is there another kit brand I should consider . I also would to prefer to build the aircraft with the wheels down . {not moulded to the side of the fuselage}.
Personally, I’d go with the Academy.

Any one of the variants - they go together like a dream - you’ll love them.
Academy, hands down.
Academy has some good stuff, but I would recommend adding some after market decals to your list. Academy decals tend to be overly thick, off register, and not very responsive to decal solvents. [:)]
I once built an old Airfix PBY, and for me, I am a kid, their 1/72 aircraft kits are the best on the market. They are easy to put together, acurate, and cheap (around $15 on eBay).
My choise is Academy too.
