what is that jet??

just wondering if anyone knows if the fighter jet used in the start of behind enemy lines is an f16? as best i can tell it is but im no guru on wingy things. I would love to build one of these, does anyone know of some extremely good kits i cant get?

thanks guys

David

It’s an F-18 Hornet. Actually I think it’s called a “Super Hornet” since it’s a two-seat variant, but I’m not that familiar with the Hornet variations.

It is an FA/18 Hornet, pertraid in the film.

Rob.

Haven’t seen the movie yet, but I have seen stills of the jet. I beleive its going to be a F-18D. Don’t know about any of the kits though as I haven’t bought one yet.

The movie Behind Enemy Lines if that is the one with Gene Hackman than the aircraft is the F/A-18F SuperHornet.

David,

I believe its an FA-18F Super Hornet. As far as I remember Hasegawa recently came out with a 72nd scale kit of this. Revell AG and Italeri likewise released kits in 1/72.

Matter of fact it was a brand new F/A-18F Super Hornet (“Superbug” to its crews). You can tell by the square intakes - the older C and D had roundish ones.

btw, the “Super Hornet” monniker is applied only to the new F/A-18E anf F models (because they’re major redesigns over the older planes), not to the C and D. Even if a D is a 2-seater, it’s still just a Hornet.

Super Hornet.

BTW…I was given that movie for my birthday this year. Being that Owen Wilson annoys the living crap outta me, it remains unopened and unviewed. I’ll GLADLY mail it to the first person who sends me a self-addressed envelope big enough to fit a DVD into and with enough postage on it to get it to you.

My email is in my profile!

Yes it is an F-18 as was stated.
That has to be one of the most phoney movies I have ever watched.
I laughed so hard in the beginning when they are outrunning that SAM for about a minute. [(-D]
That Hornet was either faster than an SR-71 or that was a subsonic AA missle. [:D]

Mike

It looked a hornet to me. [2c]

Worse still is the eighties movies of MiGs 201s Su 550s etc and all being either poor skyhawks or F-5s…I mean like Iron Eagle I-V? etc.
Top Gun is an exception though…lol

In the older days, I could somewhat forgive Hollywood for their movie screwups. After all, it was difficult to get real MiGs in the 70’s. These days, all they have to do is flash a little money around and they can have a squadron of them here overnight [:D]

As noted above the jet is a HORNET but the slow motion destruction scene following the detonation of the proximity fuse was the coolest that plane looked during the movie. Thet should have called the MARINES to fly over with a RF-4B RECCE-PHANTOM.
