While I’m at it I just wanted to share these "impact shots I took from the cupola of my M60A3 a long time ago. I had the camera set just right to record the blast when these 105 rounds hit the targets. Range was about 1200 meters, the targets were old M26’s and the ammo was service HEAT. The hard targets were filled with drums of Mogas to simulate a fueld up tank.
There is a surreal feeling when you fire on enemy tanks. Training takes over and you start engaging targets in the thermals at 2000-3000 meters (1½ to 2 miles). You see flashes in the distance, but you don’t realize what they are.
Then when you see return tank fire, you get this angry feeling that, “Hey, they’re actually shooting at us?” Almost like being on the highway when someone tries to cut you off by doing a stupid move.
Interesting thing to note is that when an enemy tank would fire, it seemed like 3-4 tanks would fire at the one bad guy who actually dared to shoot at us.
It’s not until afterwards when you realize the tanks going up had people in them.
