I have about Five projects strung out on the bench area! Why? Well, let me tell a story and I will tell it all. This isn’t about the Mountain boy who drove Illegal Alcohol(I have the 57 ford and the 49 somewhere close by though.)LOL.LOL.
As you know, I told everyone about my Parkinsons. I can build, But I need special hand supports to tone down the shaking to a level that lets me work. So Far-So Good. But, I have found one confusing thing here!
My doctor said this is normal. I have the drive, but I cannot concentrate of one thing for a long time! So when I feel myself running out of steam, I snatch another model and do some work on it.
This Has helped a lot. It just confuses anyone who comes to see me! When I look around at the partially finished and panted models, I realise I am on track, just in multiples of objects at once. You Know What? I find this way of building very satisfying. Why? Well, I actually see progress every where!
So if you are handed Lemons-Definitely make Lemonade!
I have some sort of inherited dyskenisia. I take a med that helps a lot, and my doc says two glasses of wine are good as well. It’s upsetting because it affects my work as well.
I’m packing everything up to move house. So no modelmaker for some while as the next property has no outside buildings/garage etc. There is a big shed but the surveyor said it’s not usable/safe etc. Until we move, knock down/drag away the old shed, check out the foundations measurements, can I order a new fully insulated log cabin kit. Until then as soon as we get a move date it will all go into storage, that’s 300 built models, six cabinets, spares/decals, shelving, spray booth etc.
So I’m taking up landscape painting, I was good at school 60 years ago, so I’ll shall have another go! I have water colours/pastels/brushes etc. I need to do something or waste valuable days of the life I have left. I’m 76 next month and my grandfather lived until 97, so I’ve got a few years to go yet!
I have more hobbies than brain cells to deal with them. I like working on these things constantly along with the company, my wife and I ownI need to stay busy. about six years ago I was knocked off my motorcycle and broke several bones in my lower back. The pain was more than I could deal with at the time my hobbies help me to prevent thinking about the pain I have to live with on a daily basis, when I’m working on my hobbies the pain seems to go away for while. Interfacing with people on the form and working on my hobbies is great therapy for me and I kind of understand what you’re going through although our problems are different there are similar in the way.
The house move fell through, the ladt we were buying from, backed out as she had seen quite a few other properties but couldn’t decide which one! So I’m backed to building kits with all of the other 300 still boxed up!
I have always worked on 3 or 4 models at a time. When waiting for glue or paint to cure, I can work on another model. My wife asks for help once in a while with her window treatment business but that usually means an entire afternoon, evening, or both working in her workroom measuring material for cutting or actual cutting and sewing. I can run 1 of her machines and it saves her a lot of time on the job. Today was one of those days. Got a little done this morning but nothing done since lunch and nothing tonight as we’ll be back in her workroom after dinner.
Tank Builder I admire how you push through those physical barriers when we see some folks just give up which is sad. Way back I helped in a hospital ward helping kids go through tough time with cancer. I couldn’t work there long it was too much for me. So when I feel like giving up I think about those kids. And to think you have so many models in progress I have trouble keeping two or three from getting confused.
