It was probably designed with that as the original inspiration. Most of the G.I. Joe planes, tanks etc were based off of real military vehicles that were either in use at the time or at one time. The skystriker was based off the F-14, the cobra rattler was based off the A-10, the dragonfly/the apache, the night raven/the SR-71, even the conquest X-30 was based off of another one that you have built, the X-19.
Working on a “What if” situation m48a5 if the Cold War turned hot and US backed Asia joined together to fight china. Hope you guys like this. Ps- Whatifrebel, your models somewhat inspired me to do this. Basecoat is finished!
After too many hours of circular research, I made a decision on the fin flash style for this Hurricane. The short story is that there’s historical ambiguity, and no primary sources, so I went with my gut – and the one that looks cooler. A digital micrometer, some masking tape, and it was done. And I am sure glad I pre-mixed up a bottle of each of the insignia colors before I started doing the markings, so all the colors match – and it saves a TON of mixing time.
Very nicely done! (And when in doubt, always go for what looks cooler!)

Painted the lighter of the two-color camouflage scheme FS36270 Medium Grey. Yesterday and today I masked for the final color FS 36188 Dark Gunship Grey.
Kit decals are provided for 60th Phantom anniversary, 70th NATO anniversary and a rather plain ship with a stylized panther on the tail. (Photos attached from online searches).
I’m leaning towards the stylized panther finish.
My dad passed 9 years ago and i heard lear as day telling me to measure twice…
Sure as frack. I messed up. Too short…
Well fixed it and got it done
A massive thank you to all who taught me to reduce the tackyness of my tape. Meda a huge difference on this P51A and my PBY.
Finished 2/3 of the USS Iwo Jima, the other 1/3 is the helicopters, deck tugs, and the Marine compliment. Very challenging kit to say the least.
That is on my “one day” list and would be my first ship ever. You have done a great job, and it makes me both want to build one and not build one.
Calling this one done for now,I have a resin winter base along with some winter German infantry figures on order, but the vehicle is basically done.
Aside from working on my Corsair build today Build log: Boyington's Corsair 1/48 Update #2 I completed the base for the Peggy bomber I built for the Japanese Group Build XV (2026) . I used very fine white railroad ballast and fine white sand mixed together to simulate a WW2 Pacific island coral runway. I think it turned out well.
I just need to dirty up the tires with coral and the build is absolutely complete!
It’s been a busy last couple of weeks here with a couple of road trips a d some other family business going on, but in between all that I did make some progress on this build…
I added the 3D printed headlight brush guards and engine exhaust screen into place…. Note to self, the engine screen is better installed before the hull is glued together top to bottom on my next M3 build… some weathering mud should address the worst of this..
Then later in the week I finished up adding the Real Colors OD base color
I only need to install the front armored flaps, then I can start on weathering and markings….
I’m building this Gundam kit… Not sure what it is since I’m an armor modeler but so far it’s been fun.

Today I painted the darker camouflage color - F36118 Dark Gunship Grey. After the basecoat dried, randomly sprayed thinned base color lightened with white to break up the uniform color.
I also started highlighting some of the panels, using AK watercolor pencils.
I finally got the seams on this pain in the a$$ hasegawa F-4 to a state I can live with and primed it. Then went right into panel line pre shading. I tested out a new airbrush and a new compressor as what better thing to test on than preshading? Itdoesn’t ask for any precision, and I don’t care about splatter.
To be fair, it’s so nice to see meaningful progress after months of fighting and fixing seams.
Wow, two Phantoms in a row. Both are looking great.
I stumbled across this free file on Cults 3D early last week and just could not resist. So this will be a side project for me over the next who knows how long, an astronaut from 2001, A Space Odyssey…. I printed him up overnight, starting at about 6:30 pm yesterday and he finished printing at around 11:15 am today, nearly 17 hours of print time. The figure stands at approximately 165-170mm tall.
This project will be mostly paint work, although I do plan to make a base for him as well.
You need to find a nice image of Dave in his suit and print that on a glossy paper and then attach it to the visor.
Oh wait. I’m sorry I can’t do that, Dave.
Have fun!
Thanks LP! This is such a new aspect of the hobby for me, and I’m definitely having fun with this 3D printing stuff!
