Welcome back @laxet
Can wait to see more of this build.
Dear ORE. I’ve always said that the mark of a good modeler is how clean he installs his canopies. You have mastered the art and I salute you.
Thanks. It’s been quite a while. This build will take quite a while, too.
Actually, the XP-55 canopy is the part I’m least satisfied with. The back where it mates with the fuselage is about .5 mm too narrow. Doesn’t sound like a lot but there is a noticeable step, made more noticeable by the satin finish.
The kit-supplied canopy masks were about 1mm too narrow as. Very frustrating ,especially for manufacturer supplied.
But thanks for the kind words
Hi Rebel,
What did you use for the flight deck itself? Isthat just flat black paint?
Looks great!!
Contrary to popular belief, carrier decks are not black. Rather more like a dark grey of sorts. For my carrier deck, I used Vallejo spray can # 28002 Panzer Grey. If it looks black, that’s probably due to the camera settings, angle of pic, and/or lighting conditions.
I’ve always loved the wooden ship models. Very impressive. I think I would go crazy trying to do all the rigging. Looking forward to seeing this one completed.
Great… thank you for the product and ship deck information.
We’re having a heat wave. A tropical heat wave. The sun is shining.

It is broiling here in Wisconsin. So today and the next few days I’m staying indoors and continuing to work on the flight deck landing lines on my aircraft carrier.
I hope to finish work on my big Ju88A-1 today. My workbench is temporarily unavailable, so I’ve brought everything to my desk in the hopes of completing this build. And it’s really too hot to be in the workshop today anyway.
I like the way you can attach pictures now. I never did figure out how to do it on the old board. This is not currently on my bench, but it is recently completed. It is ICM’s new 1/35 CH-54A converted into an S-64. Used a lot of aftermarket parts & a substantial amount of scratch building.
That is one impressive scale model.
Wow, it takes up the whole ironing board! ![]()
That’s fantastic. I’ve been wanting to do one for quite some time. Lonestar was going to put out a 1/72 conversion set but never happened. Which aftermarket parts did you source? I’m hoping ICM comes out with this variant but in 1/48 scale. Brilliant model!
I finished up the duster funny car. And started painting the GT body. Honestly I’ve lost interest in both of them and just want to start a new project ![]()
This is where you can get the water tank:
You might have trouble finding the big hose. I got mine from a company in Germany. The decals were available on ebay. I scratched the tail & the tool box hanging underneath. If you choose the right bird, you can make due with the landing gear. I bought an aftermarket set, again from Germany. Seems most of the aftermarket parts came from there.
Feel free to ask me questions if you get it going. There’s a lot I didn’t cover. Here is a link to my dropbox folder of the build. Ignore the last few.
Now that is one impressive build. Great paint matching. Congratulations!!!
Thanks. It’s AK RC009. I had a heck of a time finding it. I think I got it somewhere in Europe, & I think they quit making that color. It is a perfect match, though. It took over three jars to paint this beast.
