What colour should I paint this part?

Well that looks like a spring to me. I believe they were painted the base coat along with the rest of the vehicle. I usually base coat and dry brush with a rusty steel and earth color.[2c]

Looks like the suspension component of a Panzer 4. Yep, would be painted the base colour of the vehicle (say Panzer Grey or Dunkelgelb) over the red-brown primer.

you could get it muddy

dont worry about it. When you mud up the bottom of the pz 4 or III chassis(?), then you will not whave to worry about it. I just airbrush mine the basec coat and then mud it up.

i’d drybrush it with metal color heavily. i mean it bends plenty while the tank is running along, i’ve never seen paint stay on the edges of a leaf spring on a car (not that i’m the expert here or anything). mud’s always a safe bet though [:D]
