What colors for WWII US infantry figures

My next project will probably be a Tamiya half-track and figures that come with it. I have not done too many model as an adult, getting into it lately.

The question is:
What colors for these GI infantry figures? boots, pants, shirts, helmuts; the major items. I am not striving too high yet, these are my first figures, but would like to generally get the colors right;

I will use all Testors acrylics if possible.

I have Peter Darman’s book or WWII uniforms, but somehow have a hard time translating what I am looking at, mentally, into color choices.

Can I work right out of the bottle? Need to mix?

1000 tanks! [:)]

Not sure, but maybe you should put this question to the ‘armor’ forum. I’m sure someone there will tell you!

I have that same kit. For the colors for the figures I would refer to the kit instructions or the box art. I try not to worry to much about the exact colors because uniforms tend to fade and so on, as long as the colors are pretty close.
Take care,
Pat

Well, I can only help with the helmet. Make the helmet either Olivedrab or Helodrab.

Colors will include Olive Drab for shirts, pants, helmet, Khaki for web gear and spats and Russet for boots, weapon slings and other leather gear (boots weren’t black until the '50’s)

Darien,

follow what paackerson said.

A great book is The World War II GI - US Army Uniforms in Color Photographs 1941/45 from Crowood Publications.

You can fins it at www.amazon.com

Best regards

There is also a book called “The Supercommandos” by Schiffer publishing. It is about the first special forces unit but it contains some great color photos of U.S. uniforms.

Osprey has tons of books on uniform and equipment. A great investment is a reference library. These books can go for 12 to 17 each depending on whom you buy them from. Squadron has a pretty good listing and their prices are OK bu with a little work you can get the stock numbers and check some of the discount places
