Are they noticable - to the average person, not you guys on here - other than the engines? I want to use the markings for the last Jolly Rogers flight which was an F-14B, but I’m not sure I want to pay for an upgrade/conversion set.
This article may help: http://www.faqs.org/docs/air/avtomcat.html Also try a search for Gruman F-14A/B in google. Should get you many excellent sites with the info you seek. Good luck.
Thanks. I was more less wondering if there were any major physical differences to the eye. I know the engines were upgraded, but in my searches I could not find a photo comparison.
There are a few physical differences. The F-14B (and D) have the wing glove vanes deleted/sealed. The under-nose fairing is the same as late-model F-14As ( a AN/AAX-1 Television Camera system and RHAW antenna.) Seats are the GRU-7. The gun bay gas purging vents are different as well (similar to those found on the F-14D). Hope this helps. Frank
Several. The most notable is the engines… -A models had Pratt & Whitney TF30 engines; later A+, B and D models had the more powerful and much more reliable GE F110’s. A thru B models had the MB GRU-7A seats, D models had the “NACES” seat (also found in F-18’s). The D model sported a dual chin pod…ahh, there’s too much to list, my brain is about to overheat.
