I know this would be an interesting question to ask so I’m asking…!!! Its open to any era too and dont be shy LOL . Even for me this is a hard question to answer myself.
An a/c that would do well in the heat of the moment and bring you home in one peice…!! Their are a lot of a/c that I could choose from but two stick out like a sore thumb.
One would be the P-47 and the other would be the 47’s grandson the A-10 aka The “Hawg” I am not going into detail cuz you all should know their stats by now…!! You may have the tar mack. Flaps up,MIke
Su-27 Flanker or Dassault Rafale
Most definately the An-2 “Colt”! LOL!!!
Kidding aside I guess it depends on the nature of battle. F-16 is a pretty good all-around airplane. I’ll go with that.
Regards,
Pat
I hate to say it, but these polls are becomming a tad rediculus. This is an ambigous question. Are you really asking what one would enjoy flying the most (and to get shot down in)? Because it depends when and what you are flying against!
With that said, I’d like to fly a Ju-87 Stuka against Russian tanks in WWII!
This is all in fun, if you dont like it dont participate (Not upset).
To answer your second question. "The a/c that you feel will bring you home and in one piece…!!!)
Flaps up Mike
Well with that clarification I would definitely go with the P-47. If I could be more sure about my ‘real-world’ flying skills (as opposed to my cyberspace flying skills) I might go with a FW-190D-9
Air-to-air present day - if I can’t get an F-22, I’ll take an F-15. Currently the best dogfighter we got.
Air-to-ground present day - F/A-18C. Can nail the bastards on the ground AND dogfight it’s way out.
Any medium Viet Nam era - F-4E. I’d feel naked without the cannon.
Any medium WWII - P-47N.
Air-to-air: intercepter version of the SR-71-If you can’t oughtfight 'em outrun 'em.
Air-to-ground: A-10 hands down-Sitting in a titanium tub with redundant systems.
WW2: P-38: An extra engine sounds nice.
Curtiss Shrike
During WW II the United States took aircraft of various types and slapped special fuel tanks and armor all over it then the pilots would take them up and other pilots in training would shoot at them. (Who did you have to******off to get that job?) I think I would like to have one of those.

“What are friends for if you can’t use them”
My favorite a/c of all time is the P-51D ( my grandfather flew the -C version out of Debden Eng. in the 4th AF), my current fave would be the F-15E.
I’d rather read modelling information, not hypothetical and vague polls. They are starting to get slightly pathetic and pointless.
I would have to agree with the others in that these polls are getting a little old. But I’m pretty sure that I will continue to participate in them, do to some kind of compulsion to make my opinion known. It must be some kind of sickness.
My vote will always and forever be the F8F WW2, F-86 Korea, F-4 Vietnam and F-15 modern day.
Darren
I for one find the polls posted here … there … and everywhere … well, rather interesting … and if I choose to participate … well then … I do … and if I don’t … well … then I don’t … but, gee isn’t there room on/in this modeling forum for just about any idea, poll or discussion ???
Now for my 2 cents …
WWII … always have had a warm spot in my heart for the P-38 Lightning … my Uncle Carroll flew the Lightning out of England …
Korea … the F-86 has always had that “look” … and I am sure that it had/has that “feel” … btw … I was very lucky this past airshow season to see the Heritage in Flight Program that the USAF has … the F-86 Sabre flying with the F-16 Falcon … a real honor and treat.
Early Vietnam: … the F-100 D Super Sabre … a very serious looking a/c …
Later in that conflict: … of course … the F-4E Phantom II … the fighter a/c of the era.
Today: … I guess it would depend on my mission and my adversary … an air to ground mission … the Brute … the Hawg … the A-10 Warthog, an air to air mission … the F-15 Eagle … a very deadly and capable gun/missile platform. Well, I feel better … I have gotten this off my chest … now on to the next poll
Thanks for your time and opinions/ideas … that my friends is what a forum is all about.
FreedomEagle,
Thank you for taking time out to answer(and all those who did/will answer). Hey you never know someone out there might be stumped on what to build.
Maybe by seeing some of the choices, they’ll say hey I’ll build that…!!! Happy modeling. I just wanted this to be fun thats all MAN O MAN…!!! Flaps up, Mike
Mike …
You are welcome … I found it to be a very thought provoking question, and more importantly FUN … and hell, if you aren’t having fun … why do it ???
Hmmm… A Su-37 flounder would be my choice be it for beyond visual range or close combat…
would have to go with the P-51d of course
Hey I thought that the SR-71 Interceptor was a concept because it would literally out run the bullets from a cannon and shoot itself down?
Anyway I would like the P51D, or P38 in WWII, Currently the accual best dog fighter in the American military the F-14, you can shoot down six enemies from 100 miles away and still track 24 other targets, not to mention those that you can engage with medium and short range missles and the 20mm vulcan cannon. Truely the Air Dominance Fighter of the modern era!!!
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
Ah… well. Lets see…
First of all, there’s plenty of room on the forum for polls. Its an encouraging idea and may give people new ideas. Lets keep em going until we don’t want to anymore!
Now on to my choice. Again, a difficult question due to the roles one would be fighting in.
My interest has always been Close Air Support. There are two choices for that.
Vietnam - AH-1G. Beautiful aircraft, extremely capable, and when they switched the tail rotor to the right side, pilots had nothing left to complain about!
Modern day- Can you honestly think of anything better for hitting targets on the ground than the A-10? Well, maybe an F-15E, but that’s a different role (Battlefield Air Interdiction). I’d like to see where my ordnance is going so I can help the guys on the ground the best I can.
That’s my $.02
