Well I am going to try to prep the Reliant for assembly

I got more that enough parts to try and build up a properly detailed AMT Reliant. Right now I am going to do prep work on the Shuttlebay due to the fact that it is going to take a bit of time to build it.

here are pics of the Shuttlebay parts along with the replacement rear bulkhead and saucer correction set.

I’ll try to get some pictures of the other Aftermarket parts I bought to rework this beastie. But the last stuff that I will buy will be some 5 volt LED’s so that I can light it. But right now I will worry about cleaning the kit up and drilling out windows before I get to that point.

Mikey_us,

Looking at the parts my eyes about crossed hehe. I wish ya luck on the build and will be looking forward to seeing some progress.

Guido

Good luck with it!

I got the same add-on bits for my Reliant as well. I’m kind of hung up on putting in lights.

Not sure if you’re aware, but Federation Models now also has 1/537 scale Travel Pod that’d look nice in that shuttlebay. [:)]

Griff I think I was the one who told you about them yesterday on the Starship modeler forum [(-D]

Well I am probably going to order them today when I also order some 1/350 scale NX-01 Aztec masks from Federation Models.

I really hope they hurry up and release some 1/537 scale Work Bees and Cargo pods real soon.

Ok you guys are going to hate me but I should be getting my LED’s in either tommorow or Monday. But I am getting 500 2mm 5V LED’s and the guy I got them from is throwing in 500 free resistors for use with a 12V power supply. I definitely won’t need all 500. LOL[(-D]

D’Oh! I’m sure you’re right. I just get distracted here at work and sometimes forget exactly what or who has been said at which forum. []

Same here on both counts.

Why should we hate that? Some of us have to live vicariously thru those of you regularly putting out reports of their progress, after all. [{(-_-)}]

LOL[(-D] yeah but a guy having 500 LED’s and 500 free resistors. Gee how long till people beat down my door asking for some LED’s. LOL[(-D]

well I ordered the Travel Pods of course I wanted the NX-01 Aztec mask and the 1/537 scale travel pods but ended up also getting a 1/350 scale set of Travel pods and a 1/1000 PL D7 Aztec mask as well. Now just have to wait for them to show up [:P]

Well I do have to prime the shuttlebay pieces before I paint the pieces 2 tone Tan and brown. But I did some wet sanding to smooth out the Shuttlebay floor.

any idea what color to use for the “runway” on the Shuttlebay?

I’m glad that you got all of the aftermarket parts but I just wanted to let you know (as neither you or anyone else mentioned it) the hull on that thing is too thin. Those aftermarket parts are designed to be used on a corrected hull (or is that was the saucer correction kit is… hell if that’s what that is, where did you get that? Iwas goingto use sheet styrene?)

Did you get the corrected bridge kit as well?

-Shawn

I have the Saucer correction kit it came with the Shuttlebay set from Federation models. Federation Models sells the correction set as a seperate item. And yes I got the bridge kit as well as the clear blue inboard nacel inserts for lighting. Oh and BTW I also have the brass Aztec templates from Walker Enterprises.

Now that you bring it up, Arthur Pendragon over @ StarshipModeler.net has made a fantastic set of Aztecking Decals available for free.

I have them and will email them to you if you want PM me with your email address. They cover the entire ship and are friggin’ awesome. I’ve used his decals already for my AMT Enterprise Refit.

-Shawn

do you have the templates for just the nacels. The Nacels are going to be a bear to aztec.

Oh and here are pics of the aftermarket parts

and here is a site with a 1/260 scale Reliant from DeBoer hulls and I am going to use those pics as a reference

Well, here’s the deal, they’re decals done in photoshop in electronic form, not templates. Yes I can send you just the nacelles but I’d rather just send you whole file and let you figure out what you want to use. I can give you guidance on using inkjet/laser printed decals too if you’ve never done them before.

PM me.

-Shawn

lucky for me that I have a lot of Frisket paper[:D] of course I also have blank decal sheets too.

I also plan on doing something completely different with the Reliant painting wise. I am going to Aztec the sides of the hull the rim of the saucer and the front slopes above the saucer.

well got my 5 volt LED’s in yesterday along with the resistors to use them for 12V operation. and I got my 1/350 scale and 1/537 scale Travel Pods in today along with the 1/1000 scale D7 Aztec templates and 1/350 scale NX-01 Aztec templates.

Any progress?

well I did sand down the phaser banks and the 4 pad like things on the lower hull flush and scribed around them so I can locate them easier. since I have the decals for the phaser banks I can lay those at the last minute after everything else is done. I did figure out a better way to drill out the windows. I figured purchasing some JTGraphics windows and sensor band decals and place them on the saucer and hull then drill out the windows using the decals as a template.

What ever you do, post as many progress pictures as possible. I love the reliant build ups.

well yeah Reliant buildups are as rare as hens teeth.

I do have a pair of pics on the computer just haven’t loaded them onto Photobucket yet I’ll probably load them on this tonight. And then its onto the upper hull.

well here are a couple pics of the lower hull

all the offending protrusions have been sanded flat and scribed so that I can find them again when I prime the hull.

well here is a pic with Tamiya tape to mark the areas to sand

well the tape didn’t hold too well when I was wet sanding so I removed the tape and finished sanding

Mikey, I got about 20% into my Reliant and lost interest… I havnt been around much of late, so interested in how you got on with this build? Hope you didnt lose interest in it like I did?
