Weird and unusual model kits. What have you seen and/or built?

Exactly as the thread title says.
What is/are some of the most unusual, weird, or even humorous model kits that you have ever seen or built?
And I do mean “weird and unusual”. Like “What the hell?” :open_mouth:

Awesome Bandai kit

There were Japanese toilet kits, like little vignettes complete with stall partitions and tile floor. I can only imagine it was to cater to the guys who like setting up dollhouse scenes involving bathrooms and young ladies.

In the 1980s Hobby Japan magazine ran ads for similar sets in resin, complete with female victim and male assailant. They looked poorly sculpted. No pics as I never bought any of them.

But you can get vending machines and park benches now.

Do you have a diorama project currently under construction? They have you covered.

Or maybe take a break and “make” lunch!

This might be the oddest airplane kit I have.

This is the oddest ship model I have.

I still need to build a decent airliner for this one.

Wow Neal that jetway is cool!

I also did this - inside is a morbid scene from Dexter ‘born in blood’. Great kit though

Not only would I call the following weird and unusual, but also STUPID.
A model kit of waste basket trash. :open_mouth:
I can’t think of any possible saving grace for this kit unless someone were to rebuild/repaint the trash to resemble asteroids for a sci-fi diorama.
This kit not only looks like trash. It “IS” trash. No point in buying it.

I actually picked up these kits.

Cybernetic bears.

Cybernetic frogs.

And of course something from Ma.K.

This kit came out in 1966. I had no idea that there was a TV show called Man from Uncle, until my friend approached me about doing this for him.

I remember that show. It was a hoot and it’s U.N.C.L.E. I no longer remember what the acronym means. Thank goodness for google.

Unified
Network
Command for
Law
Enforcement

UNCLE

Oooohhh! Being about 10 when the show was at its height, I was a rabid fan of ALL things U.N.C.L.E. I got the Illya kit for my birthday, but the local Ben Franklin never seemed to get the Solo kit back in stock. (No mail order to speak of in those days.)
Nicely done!
(And I still have my triangular U.N.C.L.E. badge around somewhere. Old agents never die…they just get cancelled to make way for “Laugh In.”)
And pardon an old U.N.C.L.E. fan for getting persnickety - but the acronym ends “Law and Enforcement.” Mr. Waverly was always very clear on that point. :innocent:

I guess all of the Aurora monster kits I did in the 60’s I remember Godzilla,Kong,Wolfman,Mummy and Creature from the Black Lagoon.

BTW, awesome job on that diorama! :star:

I fold!
I concede the Ma.K. weirdness competition to you. That was the best I had in my stash. ROFL

I have a modeling friend who has that exact kit. He bought it at the MMSI Model Show in Chicago last year.

Here are my Frankenstein and Mummy models - old Aurora kits, I think.
I also have the Grim reaper kit in store

Very cool.Did you build them in the 60’s mine were played with until they broke.

:heart_eyes:Love this!

Okay that Hasegawa ride-n-robot thing is absolutely weird! And I have never seen that thing before. I am losing my game here.

The garbage model is one of those “why?” subjects. Anyone can scratchbuild those with ease. It’s like in Caddyshack when Rodney Dangerfield asks a kid if he can caddy, and the kid responds “can you make a shoe stink?”

Yeah, I’ve never heard of the CHUBU prior to seeing it online Lol.

The only purpose I can think of for the Trash Plastic Model is maybe a gag gift for a plastic modeler in your life.
