weathering of tank

Can someone give me an idea on how to get desert dust on my Afrika Korps panzer II please. I have tried to weather it via painting but it is just a big mess. Any other ideas? [?]

Probably the best effect would be achieved with pastel chalk. They come in all the earthly shades you can dream of and are easy to apply. Check this thread:

Do a search about ‘pastel chalk’ and you’ll get yet more info on how to apply them. Do not forget to apply some on your diorama, so that your vehicle does not look out of its environment…

Ipot - I use both pastels and the airbrush to get effects I believe you’re looking for. In the photo below is my latest Vietnam era gun truck “Sopwith Camel”. I used wet pastel chalks for texture where I wanted to represent mud buildup, and for general dusting, I diluted Tamiya Buff with 95% Lacquer Thinner. You have to be careful with your airbrush trigger (a double-action works best) but you can easily acheive great results with a little practice. I touch upon many pastel and subtle weathering techniques on my website (link at bottom of signature) if you’re interested…
