Weathering for Operation Joint Endeavor, M1A1 update

Well Ive made a little progress on the weathering ,still got a lot to do

That already looks quite good! Great work!

Looking good.
Is that the Revell M1A1?

Nice weathering on it so far jessiah, this one is really starting to progress! There’s a little bit of silvering happening with some of the side marking decals, not sure if that’s related to your weathering process or not. Did you apply any glosscoat or future before you put down the decals? I usually will apply a glosscoat to give the decal surfaces a smooth surface to adhere to and then follow over the top with a brush applied 2nd gloss coat to seal them in and then dullcoat and weather. This generally (not always) prevents the silvering depending on the decal manufacturer.

This one’s really coming to life, can’t wait to see it with the tracks on! [tup]

That is becoming one outstanding looking M1A1 Drawde. The camo is top notch and the weathering is just right on. What a fine piece of work. Semper fi, mike

WBill I did apply a glosscoat before like always but as soon as I sprayed the mud on I got that silvering effect I am going to try to stencil the IFOR , the decals must have been pretty cheap because I applied two coats of gloss, oh well Ill fix her up thanks for the comments everyone. MJohnson this is the Tamiya Iraqi freedom Abrams w/ Dragon decals which I will never use again because of the silvering that occured Ive got three more abrams kits to build this was a practice shot to see if I could paint the NATO paint scheme, Im pretty satisfied and feel like I can take on my Leopard 2A5 now[:D]

Jessiah,

Wow, that’s pretty unusual for Dragon decals in my experience. What did you use for the mud? For Dragon decals I will usually apply the second gloss by brush after the decal has set for about 10 minutes…it seals it in against the 1st coat and also helps snug it down. This sets overnight and then I apply the dullcoat. Have to be careful with it though as sometimes older decals disintegrate. Maybe you just had a bad set of decals?

Either way, if this was a testbed for painting camo, it served it’s purpose very well! [:D]
