water color Pearl Harbor

Would someone please tell me the color of the water at Pearl Harbor? I do know that it is wet. HA. Hank. Support The Troops

Herewith a link to a Web Cam on the USS Missouri moored there:

There are also some colour photo’s on the site to give you an idea. Looks beautiful & I hope to visit there one day & dip my toe into it.

If you are making a diorama during or immediately post attack, perhaps you need to think about leaked oil from the battleships ruptured fuel tanks floating on the surface?

Its prity blue. Or at least it was before Pearl.

Having been there, eons ago, the answer is - it depends. If it’s one of those brilliantly clear tropical days, the harbor waters out in the channels will be a medium blue-green, with some hints of turquoise. Around the docks, and at the Arizona memorial, it tended to be a little darker blue-green without the tropical highlights, and even a vague brownish tint when you got right up to the docks. Of course, being a naval base, you could add some streamers of iridescent highlights to represent leaking or spilled fuel, which is always on the water, somewhere.

The water is a little polluted and turbid (cloudy) for a tropical body of water. Take a look at at an aerial view of the Arizona wreck for instance, it is hard to see. After a rain it can be worse. Even so, there are periods of time where it can be fairly clear and a beautiful blue. It all depends on the weather. I have worked at the sub base and the shipyard there, and the differences between the water conditions at the two sites can vary even on the same day although they are just across the water from each other.

Here is an example of just how much water color can vary with just a little cloud cover.

if you can use the color from the past 6months try this:

search…‘google maps’… and enter, select hybrid from upper rt of map, then use directional keys to home in on Honolulu and start increasing magnification at a click-at-a-time. You’ll probably bounce up and down/left and right, increase and decrease magnification a few times before homing in about Ford Island but todays access(maybe 6mths old) shows green.

Give the Arizona a salute while you’re looking at her
