Washing and Weathering ???????

Hi all. I posted something in the Techniques forum about black paint as a primer but only for 1 hit on that so I am going to post something else here.

What is different between Washing and Waethering ?

Here is what I know so for.

Waethering is where you put wear on a model as in oil slick, rust, paint chips and so on,

But Washing, It’s also to make things look worn, right ? I did read a lot about it on here but still do not understad.

And could someone please enlighten me on an EASY way to weather

Thanks again all

Have a GREAT day

Bud

the weathering is to simulate the chips, dings dents and gunsmoke, exhaust stain type wear

the was is used to accent the panel lines and tone down the mono chromatic look you sometimes get

Hey Bud, there is no one easy way to weather an aircraft, every modeler usually has a bunch of weathering techniques in their toolbox they use depending on the kit that they are doing. For instance a WWII aircraft based in the pacific might have a different weathering approach to a modern jet fighter that spends a lot of its time indoors.

To answer your question “what is the difference between washing and weathering” well there’s not a lot of difference at all, a wash is part of the overall weathering process you do to a model.

A great source of information on this topics is http://www.swannysmodels.com/ check it out and have some fun.

Happy modeling

OK I see, there both about the same thing. That helps

Thanks all
