I know that organic solvent based washes work over Future, but has anyone tried, successfully, to use an aqueous (water based or compatible) solvent for a wash over Future? If so, how did you do it?
Never tried it myself, although dried Future sometimes will be adversely affected with an exposure to water. But for a wash, with the small amounts being used, that shouldn’t be an issue.

Does anyone know if the ‘sludge’ wash will work over future? I think it will but just checking before I try it.
Water based washes work fine, with 2 warings
- Let the future dry completely, I wait at least 2 days
- Use distilled water, not bottled and especially not tap
dont know whats in NYC water but I had a few ‘incidents’ of it
doing horrible things - I dont want to know what it does to my insides
Would the dis-stilled water matter if you are using enamel paints?
Distilled water or not wouldn’t be an issue over enamel paints because they are not water based. But if you are washing over future, water based washes could be an issue because future is acrylic (water based). I haven’t had a problem with acrylic washes on top of future, but I can see where the potential for a problem could exist. Heed hapollenz warning. And definately let the future dry well before applying any type of wash.
When applied to a floor (Why would anyone do THAT? [:o)]) Future resists water unless the water stands on it. Detergents, surfactant cleaners (409, Fantastic, Windex, and similar) attack it readily. So do ethyl alcohol. 90 percent isopropyl alcohol, and ammonia. The problem is, the water wash beads up. I don’t want to use detergent or soap as a wetting agent (leaves residue). I’m hoping the other surfactants will not give the wash too much “tooth.”
Hmmm. I wonder if Calgon would work as a wetting agent?
