Wash question

I am finishing up on a Jagdpanzer and have a tri-color camo scheme of Dunkelgleb(base),Olivgrun, and burnt Umber. Question what would be the best color wash to use that won’t jepordize colors involved. Do i dullcote before or after wash? suggestions greatly appreciated thanx.

Definitly dullcoat after the wash, reason being that the matt surface prevents the wash from flowing as well as it does over a gloss surface. Lots of people use Burnt umber for washes. have you protected the paint with future or some acrylic gloss cote?this is vital if you are using an enamel based wash.

i used all acrylic for painting wasn’t sure on what i was going to use as wash. I havent used and protectant yet as i am still ain’t sure what wash or how i want to finish up. Thanx for the input I guess I will wait for a few more to reply and then decide.

Whatever you decide to use as a wash, it’s important to gloss coat first to aid the flow. it also helps with decals which you should be applying at this stage. In terms of color, it depends on what effect you looking for…grime, dirt, dust ,etc. After you’ve finished with the wash and are happy with the results, then you seal it with a flat coat.

The colors for a wash just depend on what you’re trying to depict. I’m using Grumbacher oil paints, thinned with mineral spirits for all my washes. I tend to use raw umber, burnt umber, raw sienna, burnt sienna, yellow ochre, black.

I put a clear coat on and then use Model Master Acrylic Burnt Umber mixed with Model Master Acrylic Thinner. Works nice and I haven’t had any problems with the underlying paint. I will also spot wash places where I want a darker color with a mix of Black and Schwarzgrau (and the Acrylic thinner)

Thanx guys I’ll get right on finishing up and post some pics asap.

You would want to do two washes,1st with a very thined out ft.black and the 2nd with a mxture of rust with a tan wash both use a 1/4 paint to 3patrs of thinner.Digger
