To answer your question (which actually would “fly” best in the “Techniques” forum, IMHO), you could get away with applying a wash in the same manner you would for any other finish… The wash would likely have to be a bit thicker than what you’d apply over an enamel or acrylic paint job though, for better adhesion, since you probably won’t be priming the metal surface (That’d kind of defeat the purpose of the foil, no?).
I’d use a Medium-to-Dark Gray color, rather than Burnt Umber or Black on bare foil, but only because I think those two are too intense unless your panel line has a real “gap”… Of course, the exceptions would be to the gunbay door/gondola joints, aileron/flap/elevator/trim-tab joints, and waste-gate doors on the nacelles and radiator blisters… Those I’d do black, and I’d use oils rather than enamel or acrylic…
As always though, when using that stuff, make sure you have it burnished TIGHTLY into the recesses, and test the colors on a scrap-piece with a few different-sized depths…
Here’s the link to the “Techniques” hooch: /forums/13.aspx
Lots of good info in there and you don’t clutter other hooches with posts that are off-subject…
