Wash keeps undoing..

I put my wash on my panel lines, wait till it drys, then lightly use a cotton swab but most of it still comes out. What am I doing wrong?

im using real real light pressure, i get the excess mineral spirits off the swab so its not soaking wet, I dont wipe the same direction as the panel lines.
Anyone have a clue?

Sounds like you’re doing it right. I’m not sure why you’re having trouble. Only thing I can suggest is maybe you could scribe the panel lines a little deeper so the wash stays down.

For those difficult panel lines that won’t hold wash, I also use a well sharpened HB or 2B pencil. They do a pretty good job of accenting the lines. Give 'er a shot.

Are you using a sludge wash or an oil wash? I have only used a sludge wash, but most of the time the wash stays in pretty good? Maybe you could let the cotton swab dry longer so its just barly wet and try it then? Good luck!

Instead of a cotton swap, use a very lightly dampened napkin. (Cotton may be too “fluffy” and getting into the lines.) I also recommend the pencil technique for harder-to-do lines.

For really light lines, run a sharp razor over the line, lightly. Then use the pencil. Then gently rub the line. This should leave very fine darkened line. Good for subtle lines.

If you want a darker line, you can try a micron pen.
