was there a "normal" weapons load on Naval Skyraider?

I am building Tamiya’s Skyraider, and want to do it as a Naval aircraft. Seems like there are more photos of Air Force in service, but from what I have seen of Naval, it would appear they usually had bombs, rather than the rockets, or rocket pods. Some show a center drop tank, and some show wing drop tanks.

Was there such a thing as a typical weapons load, or was it any combination depending on the mission?

Thanks

Here is a normal toilet bombload:

And there is actually an aftermarket kit for it.

It all depends upon the mission- During Rolling Thunder missions, ordnance to be carried was often dictated by Washington.

Oh Subfixer I may have to get the Tamiya Skyraider just to build it with that ordnance

there was a bomb tail assembly sticking out the back end of that commode, most model references don’t show it, but, you can see in in pics, beginning with the Vietnam issue of Koku-fan on up to Tommy Thomason’s naval aviation blog

I wanted the Mig killer from VA-25, the commode bomber, and a line bomber,so, I am building the 1/72 Hasegawa kit with Mig killer markings, the “free” extra commode in another Hasegawa USAF release, and a “normal” small wing bomb, large pylon bomb load, with a centertank

That is the most “normal” load for a gray and white Skyraider, an assortment of small bombs on the twelve little pylons and tanks and large bombs on the 3 large pylons

the most “normal” load for a Blue Skyraider is one of the 3 types of 5 inch rockets on the 12 small pylons, and large bombs on the large pylons (or Tiny Tim on the innerwing with fuel tank on the center)

edit, you can see the tail fin in that first Brengun photo, there are 3 bombs plus the commode, and you can see 4 tail fin groups

everything but the kitchen sink! but apparently the toilet is ok, I guess that guy can say he bombed the S!@T out of them!

the kitchen sink was dropped by VA-195 during the Korean Conflict (I still think that event was the inspiration for the toilet drop)

Thanks TarnShip and stikpusher. I very much want to build a blue Skyraider, but that would mean buying decals, which I don’t really want to do, so will do the grey/white. But I love the big radials, and wouldn’t mind building another 'raider in blue.

I just texted a friend and he says that the usual loadout always included drop tanks. He can remember Mk47 Napalm bombs, Mk82 bombs, sometimes Zuni rockets but not after the fire on the Enterprise. M117 bombs. It depends on the mission.

Thanks for the info seasick.

Don’t forget to mention which era with that bird.It was designed to replace the Dauntless during WW2(I think some were on the way to Japan when the war ended). It could carry torpedoes,in addition to the rest. Last U.S. torpedo attack was performed by Skyraiders, against a dam, during the Korean War.

First delivery to a fleet squadron was December 46 so no way going to Japan.
