Warning Orders! 12 Days of Christmas Challenge 2019-2020

Hey fellow builders, Lurkers and other species!

Returning this Christmas time is my 12 Days of Christmas Challenge.

It is NOT a group build of a particular genre or aircraft but a Challenge but I hope that a badge will be available for successful builders.

You will be given Christmas Day off as that is for family, food, drink and initiating divorce proceedings and making the mother-in-lay sleep hanging upside down in the closet!

So, from the 26th December to the 7th of January you have 12 days ONLY to build the kit of your choice, no restrictions of scale, type etc.

Rules.

  1. Log your build and progress from start to finish in the appropriate section of the forum.

  2. Choose your project wisely you shall… 12 days have you. No more!

  3. Once a badge is designed it is awarded for those who post finished pictures by day 12! Those who go over… Sorry, but great job in trying and joining in!

  4. First post should be the box and sprues. if possible, please try and show some Chrismassy thing such as the box on the Christmas lunch table etc.

  5. No stuffing the Turkey with the kit. Nothing ends well that way.

  6. You Will enjoy the challenge. It is a nice bit of Crimble fun so try not to choose something complex!

7 Humour is essential so… wind your necks in, open a beer and have some fun!

  1. A competition standard of finished builds is not expected but neither is a total rush job. Something inbetween is nice!

  2. You may, on completion, destroy the object, but the photos must remain (Hee Hee Heee).

Ok… Who is up for this???

I’m in.

Pencil me in.

This is good!

I forgot to mention that you may add any AM you see fit!

The real challenge is not completing a kit in 12 days, but choosing a kit that can be finished in 12 days.

Aircraft - Revell in 1/32 scale. Some of them tend not to be as detailed as others, although some of the newer revell releases could produce time issues if you decide to add AM stuff.

Armour etc

1/35 seems to be the main scale and I have found that artillery and anti-tank guns are the best to do in 12 days.

Trumpeter 1/35 Pak 44 done in 12 days for the previous challenge!

Ships and other scales. No Ideas. You’re on your own there!!! but it is a challenge!

I haven’t chosen mine as yet but I have a list already built up!

Sounds like fun and I’ll definitely be using something I have already which was the point of doing these builds, seeing as I’ve gone and bought three new kits for the GBs recently because my imagination has run away with any good sense I had.

Joe

you can pull someting out of the bottom of the stash that has been there for… well… forever or you can look around and get something just for the challenge.

I am not going to set a price limit or make a list of acceptable kits or anything like that. The aim is to build something that you can do in 12 days and factor in Kids, family, constant interruptions etc.

I have several kits in mind already, and some are in my stash. The wise choice would probably be to pull one of those out and reduce the stash by one, but seeing as over the past few weeks the stash has doubled in size with lots of Takom and RFM thingies arriving and there is more on the way.

In actual fact, I think that Das Werk’s new Quad 30mm Flak Cannon could be a good one to do for a 12 day build. I do have that on order and it doesn’t look too complex to build, but once painted up etc could be a real cracker of a small 1/35 that sits nice in the cabinet next to a large 128mm Pak 44.

Please remember you have 12 days but don’t cite me in divorce procceedings. Family comes first!

Closer to the time I will start a thread for the challenge on here and you can post what you are going to build there along with a post to the thread once you start. It can be the central point and will be a good place for other members to come and see what is going on and jump to the various threads.

The aim is to have a bit of Christmas fun and I encourage everyone to have a bash!

James

I could get in on this. In the midst of weekend madness I should be able to pull off a 12 day at the same time. Waaaaaaay to early to decide on a kit yet.

Fortunately I am off this year during Christmas week (first time I am not working Christmas eve/day in about ten years), so yeah, count me in. I already have a model in mind. Although painting in winter could be a challenge, but what the heck.

Last year’s build was both fun and challenging-I’ve got it on the calendar and looking forward to it.

I might consider joining with a Tamiya T-34/85. Not a lot of parts and one color should make for an easy build.

Excellent. Welcome to the gang. Closer to the time I will make a list of who is in the gang and what they are intending To build.

Any scale, any kit, any AM stuff, just 12 days to do it in starting Boxing Day (26 December). Tarted up to the eyeballs or just out of the box, it doesn’t matter, it is a nice bit of Christmas fun.

Please also remember it is family time too which means it is a good time to use to escape or a break from glue, plastic and paint!

Participants may not cite me or the forum in divorce proceedings. You had better enter negotiations with SWMBO now! LOL

The more the merrier and the more fun around the various sections with the posts during this time.

OK, folks, time for a bump.

who is still in on this and have you decided on a subject.

basically the rules are:

12 days from start to finish. And you start on Boxing Day.

any kit, any scale, any add-ons.

I am in and can make the badge, it will take a few days though so if anyone else does it I am fine with that as well.

If I can build a kit in 48 hours year after year, I certantly can complete one in 12 days. I’ll let you know on Christmas, so put me down for maybe and TBD.

Ok. Sailing_Dutchman off you go with a badge. That is very kind of you. Thanks.

Snapdragon-first, thank you for creating & spearheading this GB-it was fun & productive last year. Second-please sign me up-not sure what I’m going to do but as soon as I do I’ll post it.

Thanks Bob.

It is not a GB as such more a limited time free-for-all challenge.

You post in the normal subject area under the 12 day Christmas challenge title, post a link on this thread along with finished pics here (1 post only).

Once completed within the 12 days then you can copy and display the badge.

Last year it was a lot of fun and for some builders provides a great excuse for getting away from family!

Of course, you need a very understanding SWMBO!

I’m in too James with an AFV Club 1/35 M5 3-Inch gun #AF35S64. I will order the kit today from Burbank’s House of Hobbies in California.

Looks just right for a 12 day build. not over complicated and an easy paint job.

I have these choices:

I may go with the AFV arty as I have had them in my stash for some time and the builds are more or less the same. We will see!

James

Here is what I came up with for the badge:

If you think that I should change anything just say so. I am doing this on a phome so it might not have come out right.
