The Collings Foundation is at it again, this year they have added a B-25 to the Wings of Freedom tour.
They visited Moffet Field this week in California, only 2 miles from my parents house. So it was a great 3 day weekend sitting on the field watching the old birds touch down all day.
Here are a few shots from Sunday, with the best light and not one cloud in the sky! Friday had the best clouds, but a broken lenz cause all the photos taken that day to go into the trash! [BH]
I caught a pair of F-18s and a 727 used for zero gravitiy flights. Also a P-3c visit for about 20 min, I did not include a photo of it. I might later.
If you guys enjoy these, I can add more shots, I have in flight shots and other angels. Just let me know what you want to see! [8D]
Those are some great-looking planes, and your excellent photgraphic skills really do them justice! I almost feel like I’m actually there seeing them live! Thanks so much for sharing them with us…and yes, I’d love to see more! [tup]
Holy moly! 20 B-25s??? Shame it’s so far away, I’d love to see such a show. I feel like Airshows in California are dead. We still have 3 or 4 a year that are good, but when I get excited to see three warbirds doing touch n go, you know the state is lacking good stuff.
Last Saturday in the late afternoon I was driving south bound on I-85 in San Jose heading for the Monterey area and the B-17 was following the freeway the opposite direction. It passed directly overhead of me. It was nice to see her flying.
They really do a great job at the Thunder shows. Last year was Spits, Hurricanes and a Lancaster, the year before that they had 8 B17’s. They also have a nifty WWII reenactment, last year they had 2 German Hetzers, a 251 and demag and the American side was well represented too. It was fun watching them incorporate the air show into the military reenactment, they had Mustangs and Thunderbolts making straffing runs on the Germans. No military show this year for security reasons w/the Blues there. (less goofballs with guns running around the better) [:)]
I got to go up twice when I was a kid. My G-pa flew B-24s and my other G-pa flew in the Coast Gaurd. We went up before they passed away a long time ago.
I’d like to go back up sometime, but I can seem to pay $430 for a 30 min flight. [%-)]
