War of 1812-1815 Gunboat from Battle of Lake Borne

Hopefully you can see these pictures. This is a model I built back in 1995 for a local historian. This is the USS Tchefonta (Tchefuncte is the modern spelling). She is a gunboat that fought against the British during the battle of Lake Borne in St. Bernard Parish 1 of 5 such vessels, all were captured or lost. There is only ONE surviving side profile line drawing from the Smithsonian Collection. This was a shallow draft almost flat bottomed gunboat. I thought that the model was destroyed during Hurricane Katrina but the owner called me last week to effect some repairs and give it a good cleaning as he is donating it to a Government office. If I remember correctly it took me about 6 months to build her. Glad to have these pictures.

Hello!

That’s a very nice model. 6 months seems to be an express time for such a fine work - my wooden ship model took me years to complete.

Here - let me repost one of the pictures to raise some interest among our friends here, that are somewhat in a hurry and don’t like to explore links so much - guys, this one is worth it:
