WAit for later....the bird is gone.....Happened to you?

Saw the kit i wanted…really rare OOP (out of production)…said to myself ok go to the bank first, bills have a priority!!! On the way back…alas the kit was gone!!!

Been there and done that! [:(!] The last time that happened I found the kit on ebay for only double what the store wanted.[V]

I sympathize.[sigh]

OUCH! That hurts…Ive never experienced that yet, concerning a model!(Knock on wood) hope that I dont, but rarely buy vintage or oop kits…Well I dont go hunting for them and often dont know what I have if I do find one.

Sounds painfully familiar. I can’t recall how many times I’ve told myself that I’d pick up that certain kit the very next time I was in Brand X Hobbyies. Of course, I was too late the next time I went. Kit is OOP and selling for double++++ on eBay. My only hope these days is to luck into some of those I’ve passed by at shows and yard sales.

I bought a kit at the recent Louisville, Ky show that I have been wanting for about 2 years. After agonizing over the cost and trying to decide if I could wait a little longer, I broke down and shelled out the cash for this kit. Financially, I’m strapped until the end of the week, but hey, the bills are paid, I finally have what I have been wanting and I can eat bologna, potato chips and sodas until friday…lol

That is why I always carry “model money” with me. I don’t spend it on anything but models. When I go into a model store and see a kit I just have to have, I buy it. No credit card, check or out of my other spending money. Now if there are several kits that I want, I just have to decide on which ones I want with the model money I have available.

If you collect old kits it happens to you way too often. I console myself by remembering that the next “gotta have it” is right around the corner. So many kits…So little time!

been there, done that, big ouch. the last one was the Heller EC121 (to replace the one that the missus broke) thought i would go back later that day when i wasn’t as busy, ended up going a couple of weeks later and it was gone and i have never seen one since. Greg

there still ate two other kits left …lol heller late 70s?
two french types, one has engine naceles on wing tips!!other underwing pods looks like the Badger? russian bomber. The past two months i become hooked with rare oop subjects…
how knows in 40 years from know i will finally enjoy the investment of my tamiyas…lol

The only one I really regret missing was the Academy 1/32 Hornet. My local HL had their 1/2 off sale going, but didn’t have the moolah on me at the time. Went to the money wall, came back 10 minutes later: you guessed it, it was gone. Now, they have 2 more in stock, with no sale in sight.

Yeah, I did the same with the Accurate Miniatures 1/24 scale Corvette Grand Sport.
I blanched at the price, waited a little too long, then the last one was sold AND the company went out of business!!
I was royally skeeeroood.
Good news is that AM is back in business, and I’m ready for the Vette to hit the shelves…

I was thinking of starting a thread similar to this “The One That Got Away” ,i had ordered some kits from Squadron including a resin model of a British jet, flying boat.In my newbie-ness I didnt know what a resin kit was all about(a lot of extra work)it looked ok but I sent it back to stretch my modeling dollar on something that i could actually put together that would look nice.I figure that after my skills improve I’ll wish that kit was on my shelf & it will be OOP or I’ll be onto something else & never bother to order it.My point is,never let go of a kit once it’s yours. That attitude must be a popular one since some of you admit to having hundreds of unbuilt kits! Modelers are an optomistic bunch of hoarders.
