I can’t understand it either- in fact, I can’t understand why more civil aircraft are not available as models, but this is a fact of modern plastic kit manufacturing. This is a frequently discussed topic in the Civil Aircraft forum (you might enjoy that forum if you are interested in civil aircraft). At least we do have the new Rodan Beech Staggerwing kit. Let us be thankful for small favors.
If it isn’t a military model it will not sell well. We need more people willing and interested in building civil aircraft!
Perhaps a bit off-topic, but are there any models of any crop dusters available? They have an almost predatory look about them and they would be a master-“weatherer’s” delight! I’d love to build an Agcat or an Air-tractor in 1/48.
I forgot to mention- one option for civil aircraft is to build a kit of a smaller balsa flying model. These can be enhanced with scale props, and cockpit detail to create non-flying scale models. I can’t think of a YMF kit offhand, but I know that Dumas does have a number of civil aircraft in their line of balsa flying models. Fabric covered aircraft look fine in the supplied tissue covering. I cover metal skinned aircraft with either a fine card stock or thin sheet styrene.
There are several crop dusters available in resin in 1/72, can’t think of any in 1/48. Once I get back to the shop in a couple weeks I can give you an answer on which ones.
