I agree with ya’ about Aber’s PE, it really is jus’ plain mental! I look at all those tiny tiny parts, and then my hands go numb, and my brain goes into hibernation!
I prefer eduard, always have! No annealin’ needed!

I still shudder in horror at the memory of the first time I got an Aber set…it was for a Tiger I and was my first real committment to using PE…I still have many of the frets with all their parts in the spares bin. [;)] They are beautiful in their comprehensive nature but sometimes you wonder if they figure that because of the $$ price, some torture is required to make the builder feel they got their money’s worth. [:P]
Looking good Fingers, are you going to build this one with the turret hatch open?
Bill, on this particular set it has ‘TORTURE’ written all over it! I wanna’ use it all, but some of these parts are jus’ beyond me! There are so many multiple parts that jus’ go to make up a single bolt/ attachment for the front and rear fender guards, and what’s more after these parts are assembled you have to locate and thread some wire cut to the corrct size through they’re eyelets. All these parts can only be fashioned with the use of solderin’…and I don’t have a solderin’ iron anymore!
As regards the turret hatch, yep it will be left open. I plan on addin’ a Chinese figure to the turret. I’ve heard that Warrior’s are gonna’ be puttin’ out a Chinese tanker crew, not sure about the period though!
Durin’ this war the Chinese Nationalists were kitted out with german uniforms, anyway! So it’ll be a case of puttin’ a chinese face on a german body! Simple!
If anyone has any ideas on who may stock figures of this type, i’d appreciate there info!
I’ve had a go at assemblin’ the engine vent on the rear deck, and with some patience managed to fit the slatted parts to the finely toothed side strips. These are to replace the moulded in part on the engine deck hatch.
Rememberin’ that this set is for the Tristar kit, it looks like these assembled parts will fit nicely! Oh god, it looks like some fine cuttin’ and filin’ is needed now!
A lot of things can go wrong, look at the width of the surroundin’ plastic where the hinges are, i’m torn whether to go ahead and do it or not!
A little gem with a lot of details! Perfect! And I know it’s under the X-Mas tree [:D]
I will be watching closely Fingers
Jean-Michel, are you from New Brunswick?
I live in the UK, but my father lives in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
Yes, New-Brunswick in Oromocto. Right by CFB Gagetown. It’s about 20 mins from Fredericton. It’s small world isn’t it? Are you originally from Canada or your father moved here?
Wow, my auntie and uncle used to live in Oromocto, there’s an army base there (Gagetown). My uncle is a sergeant and was stationed there. I have another auntie and uncle in St. John, too!
I’m british, but my grandmother married a Canadian soon after WWII and immigrated to Canada with him, that is how I have family in Canada. My father migrated to Canada in 1972.
Yeah, that’s where I’m stationned right now, really a beautifull place! Have you ever been here for a visit?
Yeah, i’ve been many times! I used to live there for a short time. I have immigration status in Canada, so I can come and go anytime I want, and stay as long as I want. At least I think I can!
I’ve even driven a speed boat on your St. john river in Fredericton! [:D]
Anyway…the PE in this Aber set is drivin’ me nuts, and makin’ me lose my confidence in workin’ with it! One fold at a time, thats what I keep tellin’ myself…one fold at a time!
A journey of a thousand folds begins with a single bend…or something like that. I’m no Confucius that’s for sure, been fighting my own battles with PE and other things today Fingers, so I can relate! [:D] Hang in there, you’ve got some good work going for you.
On a side note, one of my pet peeves with PE is when they call for wire or plastic rod of a certain diameter and don’t provide it in the set…this is one thing that IMHO Voyager has done a very good job with in terms of including stuff like that…I mean after all if they engineered the darn thing to require the stuff in the first place. [;)]
As far as a Chinese head, maybe try looking for a set for the Korean War?
Tanks Heaven for Little Grilles…[:-^]

Bill, thats what this set calls for, wire rod. They have supplied a small piece though. This set is very intensive, and in all honesty can really give you a mental breakdown!
It took all of last night’s evenin’ jus’ to get these clamps (in three parts), fittings and supports folded, assembled and cemented!
This kit really does need the PE treatment for the tools, but in some cases the plastic fittings will suffice, as with the extinguisher and spade in these two shots!
Looking good Man, your right to be using the Pe set. Sometimes we are left with no option. Just look at what Bills up to with the that Flak panzer. Keep up the posts and good work, I’m looking forward to seeing some of the builds going on here right now.
Regards, and good luck.
Terry Burke.
nice build so far, friend, keep at it!
hey fingers[:D]-- i shudder when i do 1/16 P.E. on my t-34!!-- those tool clamps look absolutely great— i am jealous – i don’t think i could do parts that small— this is gonna be another of your great builds!! – super work!!—[:D]-- treadwell[:P]
[bow] Wow, my fat fingers salute you![:P]
Cheers guys, for your interest!
It’s a small update, but i’ve got these braces fitted to the exhaust, prior to fittin’ the exhaust guards. After annealin’ 'em they really are pliable, fine-pointed tweezers ahoy!! [:D]
Nice PE work Fingers. Grea progress, I am anxious to see you apply your skills once again.
Here are the exhaust guards fitted. I really like the look of these Pz I’s with these exhaust guards! [:)]
