W.I.P. Pz.Kpfm KV-2 754(r)

Very Crisp, Very clean, well executed model project!!!

I can’t wait to see more PE and/or weathering. Great work!!!

Cheers Ted!

First of the fenders fitted, with no fit fissures, or issues even, to speak of! [:D]

The instructions for this KV-2 show some diagrams and measurements for the wirin’ that runs from the german horn and notek light over the top edge of the glacis, and meets up where the wirin’ for the horn is located.
I have these four images that show this setup.
There doesn’t appear to be any braces for securin’ the line of wire though, so i’m pretty sure this is a sheath for the wirin’, welded to the plate.

What do you guys think?!

very cool progress, and very cool pics, you da man.[bow] I hope to see this one come to life. I did some looking and really couldnt find find a better photo or reference, it must be wiring for the notek in conduit?

Looks like metal conduit pipe to me, it’s rigid and perfectly square on both sides in the different shots, so my guess is tack welded directly to the hull.

I was going to point out that fitting the fenders early makes it hard to work on the tracks, but I don’t suppose any self-respecting modeller would resort to using kit tracks anyway.

You can still get away with it on the KV series if you don’t secure the return rollers, but that’s the only way it’s possible and it is trickier than doing it with the fenders off, no doubt about it.

As for using kit tracks, all depends on the kit really…not everyone has the need or resources to go out and drop $30 or more on replacement tracks just to keep up their so-called self-respect…especially if the tracks alone are 2x the cost of the kit to begin with as is the case with Trumpeter’s kits. Kit tracks often work just fine (and in some cases not too!), but to each his own when it comes to their builds and level of enjoyment. [;)]

I’m still waitin’ for some essential items for my Pz.IB, and I haven’t touched her in quite awhile. I’m hopin’ she don’t get too jealous with my progress on this big mama! [(-D]

I’ve textured the lower hull and underside of the fenders with the sand paste, and i’ve completed addin’ all the necessary PE. I didn’t like the clamps that Eduard supplied, so in some instances I replaced ‘em with Aber ones. Also, I used some old ‘Elefant’ resin horns instead of usin’ the kit and PE parts. I do wish Eduard had produced the boxes in PE then I could have ‘dinked’ 'em up a bit. Nevermind though!

All I have to do now is to plumb in the conduit pipe for the wirin’ that runs around the top of the glacis, and for that i’ll use some plastic wirin’ instead of brass wire. This way its easily cemented in place and will not have any kinks in it!

The track wheels, jerrycans, track links and shells are jus’ restin’ in place, to give me some idea of the look.

Making good progress Fingers!

Thanks Bill.

The KV-2 Lion Roar set came today includin’ the barrel! To fit this beauty nothin’ needs to be altered other than to leave the kits plastic washer part off! This barrel is the correct size and doesn’t need it. Jus’ slide on and superglue!

Shaping up to be a really impressive build, this one is.

Keep up the good work Fingers! I love that barrel ! [^] Love the rifling.

Thanks guys!

Here is the PE mantlet replacement. An improvement on the plastic part which is too thick, I gotta’ say!

man Fingers-- this is gonna be another great russian build for you[:D]-- the p.e. is awsome looking!-- can’t wait to see your paint job!!–[tup][tup]- tread[:P]

Thanks Tread’!

The turret is complete, and will include a figure. I’ll probably use the one from the Tamiya PzIII L kit.

There were only a few PE parts that were called for, but they make a lot of difference. I stayed with the plastic grabhandles instead of bendin’ my own with the ‘Bendicator’, 'cos the plastic pieces came away from the sprue nicely, and were easily sanded smooth.

That looks great! Is it just me or does the KV-2 turret look more like a warship’s turret than a tank’s turret? Very impressive build you have going. I have the Trumpeter “Simplified Turret” (what ever that means) version that I hope to build someday soon.

Cheers Rob! This turret from the tip of the barrel to the rear, is roughly the same length as a Tamiya Peugeot 206, give or take a few mms!

Its a real shame there are no interior parts for it. There are no references for the interior of this vehicle, i’m guessin’ thats why!

Nice work on the turret Fingers, it’s got that “landship” feel to it that Rob mentioned, ugly looking brute!

This is ready for paint now!

The conduit for the wirin’ has been installed, and for this I used lead wire. The advantages bein’ that its easy to bend (too easy), and very easy to make a clean cut.

That a great looking beast you go there Eddie [:D] I always thought that the KV-2 had a really mean look to it.
