Im interested to know what everyone thinks is the best Decal Set. Ive used Gunzo Mark Softener and also the Testors brand. But id like to hear your thought on what is best and why.

Future. It banishes silvering. For complicated surfaces, Future, followed by the decal followed by a touch of Microscale’s MicroSol.
I agree with dj about Future. Wonderful stuff. I usually use Microscale or Aeromaster solutions, depending on the decal. These don’t work as well on all decals, though. The strongest, for softening the decal, seems to be Solvaset. It can “melt” some decals, and sometimes needs to be thinned with distilled water. A good selection & experimentation can lead to pleasing results. Hope this helps.
Different solutions work better on different manufactures of decals. Mike Grant Designs need very little and will snuggle down nicely with Future or Micro-Set while others like old Tamiya need repeat applications of Micro-Sol or Mr Marker Soft. If things get really difficult then you have to whip out the ol’ Glacial Acetic Acid and get serious about melting some decals. (That’s pure vinager by the way)
I’ve have a couple of bottles of Super-Set and Super-Sol that have given me no problems through the years.
Tried the Testor’s a couple of nights ago on Hasegawa’s decals, and it didn’t even phase them. Looks like I might have to go online for something different, as alot of my kits are the Hasegawas. Has anyone found something that works really well on them?

I had similar results with the Testors solutions on a Hasegawa Kit as well. The larger decals eventually peeled off. Im not sure if that was a direct result of the Testor but ill never use it again.
I did take the precaution of shooting another gloss coat over the decals, so I’m pretty sure they’ll stay put. I just want something to help them snuggle down a bit more. For some strange reason, their decals are thicker than some cardstock.

There are a couple of “tricks” you can use on Hasegawa decals that won’t behave. Try dipping them in near-boiling water, or applying them to a small puddle of white glue diluted w/water, or onto a puddle of Future. The hot water helps soften the decal & its glue, & the white glue or Future helps adhesion. As always, experiment first to see if it helps. Try it with a decal that you won’t be using from the same sheet. Good luck, & I hope this helps !
never used setting solution before which is why the decals on most of all my old models look like crap…Ill be sure to stay away from Testors though
