hi,i bought the italeri m110a2 kit to build as a vietnam war vehicle, any help on what i can get to help me back date it would be appreciated.
The M110A2 was a later version of the M110 and the A2 was not used in Vietnam. The original M110 with its short barrel is the correct version for Vietnam. The major difference in the kits is the barrel. I don’t know anyone who has the short barrel as a separate item. You may want to look at picking up an old M110 kit on ebay.
Eduard makes a nice photo etch set for the M110. You can also look for AFV club 155mm/8inch ammunition set.
Here are some other details setting up artillery.

Hi,thanks,I bought the m110a2 off eBay for £15.00,I noticed that there is a few different ones on eBay but it would have cost me more than double to get one as they were priced at the £20 mark plus the same for postage,I wish italeri would release that kit across here in blighty.
Hello!
Gino would surely correct me here, but I thought of fitting a barrel of a M115 howitzer to the M110 chassis - could that work?
Long time ago I’ve built a model of a M110 in 1:72:
Have a nice day

Hi,cheers for the reply,I’m trying to find an m115 on eBay to see what I might need.I’m also wondering if I could convert the kit barrel or would that be a nightmare.
I’m not that familiar with artillery as we only had M-113s and M-706s in the Air Force, but wouldn’t a piece of aluminum or brass tubing work? Then just put a canvas dust cover on the end.
Yes, the barrel from an M115 Long Tom from AFV Club can be swapped out to backdate the M110A2 to an M110. They had the same barrel.
No, the barrel is tapered and flared, so a straight piece of tubing won’t work.
I’d buy the M115 and make a copy of the barrel.
Hummm…my younger brother is slightly off (a rare event)…the M115 8 inch towed howitzer was not the “Long Tom”. The M59 155mm gun, which was on the same carraige and upper assembly was known as the “Long Tom”.
The M110/M107 used the same upper assemby/gun mount as the M115/M59 towed. The M07 was upsized to 175mm while the 8 inch was just transferred to the self propelled carriage.
Both were hell of a weapon, especially the M107!

Thanks for keeping me straight Mike. I meant the M115, not the 155mm M59 Long Tom. Long day at the Naval Academy w/the crew team. Lots of fun though.
Thanks for the help guys,so I will have to get a long tom kit and rob the barrel from it,just a pity that no one does a barrel as an aftermarket part.
No, just to clarify, you want the M115 kit, not the M59 Long Tom.
hi , hannibal smith .
mister verlinden had this kit in the catalog ref 423 .
his name is : M110 A1 and A2 (8 inch ) .conversion kit .
I still have one of it in my ownership and I do not find him anymore but I have the plan so that you can see the number of pieces of component .
phil .
Hello Phil!
the thing is Hannibal already has a kit giving you an -A2 out of the box, but needs an A-nothing variant, that would be correct for the Vietnam war. The Verlinden kit you show (thanks a lot, by the way) was relevant in times when Italeri had a kit out giving you only the A-nothing variant while -A1 and -A2 were state of the art.
So thanks for sharing, and have a nice day

AFV Club also does the M115 Howitzer.
Cheers guys, the AFC club kit seems to be out of stock at most stores, possibly out of production, will just have to build the rest of the kit and leave the gun Until I source a kit or until someone does a barrel as an aftermarket conversion part.
I can’t thank you guys enough for your input.happy building.
One is going pretty cheap on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-35-AFV-CLUB-M115-8IN-HOWITZER-/272106513699?hash=item3f5acfe523:g:Q2EAAOSwpRRWmZz5
