vietnam era uniform color question

Hey gang,

I am building an M-102 in its pit. I am in the process of painting figures and am having trouble identifing a good color for the kahki on the US helmet grape vine camo scheme. Anyone know of a good color for this?

Thanks in advance

Are you referring to the “dead leaf” in the pattern? RAF Mid Stone is a good choice.

thanks stik, i asume thats a model master color? Ill look for it at the LHS

You’re welcome Doc. Yes, Model Master has it in both their acrylic and enamel lines. Most of the main paint makers have it in their line up under that name as well. Tamiya’s Desert Yellow is close, but a tad bit darker.

I agree with stick but most of those helmet covers were also “well” faded…Lighter is better!

M102…Hummmm,right up my alley…hope you post some progress pics. Would be glad to help is you need details. Commanded a battery of those many moons ago!!

Rounds Complete!!

Thanks Redleg, I will be posting some pics as I go. I got the AFV gun and the hobby fan pit and crew. My uncle was on fire bases in vietnam where he was on a 102 crew. When Im done it will go to him. So I will be sure to shoot any questions to you as I build.

extremely faded and lots of stains on them around the brim. Another thing that most people fail at in an arty situation is that they almost always put everybody in full uniform. Rare to say the least! Tee shirts were the norm, and have seen lots of guns being shot by guys wearing nothing but a helmet and a pair of cut off pants (even plain old issue boxer shorts were not at all uncommon). In the winter months you’d start to see pants and shirts again till everything they owned got wet. Lastly; it was no fun doing a fire mission wearing a flack jacket! You soon learned to use them as a seat cushion.
