I am starting my first Diorama. Vietnam! My M113 is sitting in a clearing, with some blown out treads. Ambush! There’s a problem though… I am not sure how the tread should look. I want to give the illusion of a mine, or a tread aimed RPG, but I don’t know how it should look. Bullet holes in the APC is another problem I am having, I tried but it looks rather, not correct to say the least. There seems to be a lack of pictures for this type of setup also, so I am not completly sure how to set it up. One last thing, I am looking for Vietnam Figures, 1/35. I have not decided wether the Dio will be after, or during the ambush, so resting or action is fine, I need to see what I can find first! Accessories I need still: Torn open ammo boxes, to look as if they were opened under fire. Spent casings, mainly from the infantry. Dead Vietcong, perhaps, or, Attacking Vietcong. And a dead American in back of the APC, also ideas for the blood pattern on the interior. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Welcome to the forums!
Sorry if this offends some, It is not intentional and is due to my own ignorance, no offence is intended whatsoever:
Academy made a set of Republic of Korea tank crew figures at rest, and I think if you knew what you were doing you could make them look Vietnamese.
Sorry if that offended anyone, it is due to my own stupidity and no insult is intended.
Why would that offend anyone?. You are just stating a fact!.. I live in Japan, and they call themselves " The Japs" versus the Aussies, when we play cricket or Baseball… Dont worry, I dont think you will offend anyone…
Chris in Japan
I have that kit if you want it, I got it and 3 or 4 others for around 10 bucks total at a show, and Im never going to build a Korean dio. The kit is from 1995, all pieces there
I took 2 pics of the box, one close in, one showing the whole box, but Ive seem to lost my cable so I can load them on the computer.
here is a not zoomed in pic of all 4 figures (theyre modern I think but If you knew what you were doing I think you could make them Vietnam era)

DML/Dragon makes a few Vietnamese figure sets. They have a Viet Cong set, NVA Sapper set, and a ARVN Ranger set. Also have some Vietnamese figures in a MACV SOG set, 2 American “Advisors”, 2 S. Vietnemese troops. Any of these would work for Vietnamese, NVA, or Viet Cong figures. They also have a few US sets from Vietnam as well. check here and scroll through the pages to see some of them. http://www.greatmodels.com/cgi/search.cgi?termscat=DML/Dragon_Models+Figures
Verlinden also does US and Vietnamese figures in resin from the era.
I have found most of the figures I need from DML/Dragon and Verlinden. Scer, I do not work with figures, and don’t know wether I will be able to fix them up for the Dio. If you want to work something out, you can E-Mail me at, iforgotit@Hotmail.com. The Academy Korean Republic Tank Crew does not look to hard.
Thanks for your help everyone.

Chris,
Try this site for pics. Scroll down to the Vietnam pics section. Some RPG hits and mine damage.
http://home.triad.rr.com/blkhorse70/blkhorse3rdpg.html
A little more serious damage at the bottom of this page.

and some interesting reading material here

From what I have seen in dios, it is very hard to make figures look dead. Maybe and after the action scene with a couple of wounded being tended to.
Good luck.
if your looking for damaged M113 pics you could probley just look for some pics for O.I.F. i’m pretty sure they used them there.
Philp, the two sites with pictures you suggested were great. The ‘interesting reading material’ link, did have alot of reading on it… I didn’t read all of it, but I kept the link. Also on that site I was able to get in touch with some M113 Vietnam Vets, and that was very helpfull.
t3488g, I did look for some M113 pictures from Iraq, I did find some with bullet holes and the like, but not much damage than that. Our Men and Women over there must be doing a hell of a job keeping them rolling!
Thanks for the help,
Chris Atler
