Need some help guys.
I have purchased the Verlinden King Tiger engine pack, kit 2117. It is listed as being for the Dragon kit. I am putting together the Dragon late production Tiger II kit 6232. I have done some dry fitting and it appears that the dimensions are not quite right and it just doesn’t look like a very good fit into the lower hull. Also the Dragon kit engine cover that is to be used doesn’t fit the opening in the Verlinden deck and the covers and screens when they are compared with the Dragon aft deck area are off enough that there may be significant gaps between them and the dragon aft deck after cutting. I just want to make sure it is going to fit before I go cutting the aft deck off of the tank structure.
Was this kit designed for another Dragon Tiger II kit or am I just being too fussy? This is also my first attempt at this so I may also be a bit over cautious. If anyone has any experience using this Verlinden kit any advice/information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Padre
Hi JR, I’m not really an authority on the Verlinden kit, but have you tried test-fitting the bum parts to a Tamiya King Tiger? Its possible that you might be a victim of an overzealous marketing department who just repackaged and relabeled an older release in order to sell it to the DML crowd. It’d be easy enough to test my theory… In any case, thanks for bringing it to our attention, and please report it to Verlinden, Inc. If it’s any consolation, I had to do a bit of fiddlin’ and filing to sink a Verlinden engine into a PZIV, but I was pretty satisfied in the end. I’d just use the Dragon deck; with some careful cutting you should be able to pull it off, and if the engine doesnt fit, just file the bottom; you’re not gonna notice it when it’s in the hole.
I’ll give the Tamiya test a try. I have a Tamilya King Tiger built but I can check the deck fitting easy enough. I’ll let you know the results.
The Verlinden set is not ideal for the DML Tiger II. Even though they advertise it has being specifically for it. I used it on the DML King Tiger by reworking the engine side walls, adding plasticard shims, etc (trimming). I also was disappointed that the Verlinden engine compt. set comes with no plumbing. I bought the Tamiya engine and mechanic set and used the plumbing from that kit and scratched some as well. BOttom line, you can make it work, but it takes some model building skill. There are some substantial differences in the dimensions of the Tamiya kit versus the DML. I found this out when I adapted the Verlinden PE zim set to fit the DML hull and turret.
Hopefully now that squadron has aquired Verlinden some of these issues will be worked out.
