Varieze fuselage length

I am planing to scratch build a Varieze. In dimentions I find “length”. Since it has swept wings whose trailing edge extends back beyond the end of the fuselage, I am unsure wither this means nose to trailing edge of tips or the length of the fuselage. Does anyone have more info?

I think you could establish the size of your model by using the wingspan data instead. Using the length, as you have discovered, can be tricky.

Even the big boys can get tripped up - I think Italeri interpreted the B-58 Hustler’s length incorrectly, resulting in a squashed fuselage that is impossible to fix. Trumpeter also goofed when they took the published hull length of the Swedish S-Tank to be the overall length, but they included the rear containers, so again the hull was deformed to fit the dimension.

Please share details of your model project, as I love anything by Burt Rutan. What scale are you planning on building it?

I tried to make the Rutan Boomerang many years ago.

I think someone makes a 3-D printed kit of it now.

Usually the dimensions are overall, such as to tell how big a hangar is needed to fit the airplane. You would need a detailed drawing or station diagram to have full information. Here is a link to a NASA wind tunnel study of the Vari Eze that has a good 3 view. FS is Fuselage station, WL is water line or vertical dimension, BL is bulkhead or lateral dimension.

Thanks, that is a great reference. Google search did not pick that up.
