Vallejo FS colors/tints (multiple)

I have been looking at Vallejo paints for specific military models and have noticed that they have multiple bottles with the same FS#. They seem to be different colors/tints? Can anyone enlighten me on this? Here’s an example

Thanks for any replies!

in this specific case, they are colors in three different Vallejo paint lines

the first is Model Color

the second is Model Air

and the third is Vallejo’s PolyUrethane Primer series

(there is a fourth possible place for the same color, that is in the Panzer Aces series, those are existing Model Color paints given a number as a Panzer Ace color)

otherwise, in a more general sense, Vallejo paints can get listed according to what FS number they are closest too, in some charts, you will find FS 34079 on three paints, and one is right one, one is slightly lighter and one is slightly darker, but, they don’t fit close to any other FS, so that is the one they are grouped with

Good eyes, Rex, I didn’t even notice the different bottles. That being said, say I want a Tri-color NATO pattern, do I need the 3 Model Air colors, or 3 Model Color colors? So they will look right next to each other, I mean.

Model Air is mainly for airbrushing, Model Color is for brush method BUT… it can be used for airbrushing as well. Hope this helps.

I didn’t look at the bottles, I just used the item numbers.

70xxx is Model Color, 71xxx is Model Air, and 73xxx is the PolyU, with the number after the 3 telling you what size bottle of primer you have.

It is as BS-214 says though, except that you can use any of them next to each other, thinned Model Color Green in with the other two Model Air for example. If any given color is “better” for you than another, just use that, you can even use different paint companies on a model.

Thanks for the replies, guys. That cleared it up.
