Vacuform B-17E nose canopy in 1/48th?

Hi, all,

Does anybody know if anyone ever produced vacuform B-17E nose canopies in 1/48th, to use when backdating the old Revell B-17F to an -E? I haven’t found any reference yet to any one that might have been made, so I will probably have to scratch one.

Regards,

Brad

gud luck!

Yes, Koster makes one. It’s part of his B-17 vacuform set for early B-17C’s and D’s. I think that you can just order the clear vacuform portion from him. It also includes pieces to convert the lage cheek gun windows to the smaller ones that the B-17’s originally were equipped with.

Thanks very much, guys! I will have to track these down.

I have 2 of the Revell kits, I want to finish them as B-17Es at Midway.

I built the Monogram B-17G kit when I was a kid, but never the Revell -F; I went into modelpause before any of the stores in my area ever carried it. But looking at it now, I understand comments others have made, comparing the two kits. Revell put next to no interior detail into the kit, not even molded-in interior frameworking. On the other hand, you really can’t see much of the detail, once the fuselage is together, and if you want interior detail, it’s a scratchbuilder’s dream.

My only real complaint with the Revell kit is that they provided no crew figures at all. Sure, today, there are many aftermarket figure providers, so finding crew is no problem. But thinking back to the time when this kit was issued (mine is copyrighted 1982-Monogram’s offering came out 7 years before that, if I am not mistaken), this couldn’t compete with the Monogram kit.

Anyway, thanks again for the tip! Now, I just need to get myself a good camera, and I will post pictures as I go.

Regards,

Brad
