USS Princeton...

Anyone make a good kit of this light carrier???

Dragon makes a kit of the USS Independence (CVL) in both 1:700 & 1:350 scales

Yeah but I need the Princeton…

Like this one?

I wonder what the differences were if any between the two?

Hi,

I hate to mention this but… I have the Independence and the box top appears to be identicle except for the name…

A hot-link would be kinda nice…

Dragon’s CVL-22 and CVL-23 kits are accurate to the details of the individual ships.

I.e. the PRinceton kit is not a re-pop with a different box top. I was the lead accuracy consultant on both. From memory, the differences between the kits were:

  • New flight deck to capture the port and starboard three-gun 20mm galleries forward that CVL-22 lacked.
  • New mast pieces to accurately depict the “pole mast” CVL-23 had over CVL-22’s “Sawhorse” style platform with legs.
  • different 20mm gallery pieces for the space between stacks #2 and 4.
  • Wildcats missing from the CVL-22 kit (oops)
  • aft bulkhead on the stern missing from the CVL-22 kit (oops)

I had hoped to get at least a third kit out with the twin catapult configuration but I think two is what we’re going to have for now.

Good info…I bought the Prinecton kit over the Independence because of the more ‘colorful’ history of the Princeton.

Got the kit yesterday and all I can say is “WOW!!!”

This kit is so good I purchased a second one…

Feel free to ask any questions you have of the ship or model and I’ll try and answer. I got one kit in payment for a lot of work (not complaining, I got to make the corrections BEFORE they got committed to plastic!) and leant it to a website for a review and unfortunately don’t think I’ll ever get it back, so I haven’t actually built one, but I did assemble the test shot of Independence.

Thanks…one thing I was wondering about is what measure the Princeton was in when she was sunk. And what color was the deck?

Also, what would a typical strike look like spotted on the deck of one of these carriers. I want mine modeled right at the moment a strike is about to be launched…

Measure 33, Design 7a. The flight deck was 20-B Deck Blue stained wood.

Yes, it’s Independence in the drawing, but that is Princeton’s paint job at the end.

That’s an attractive ship. And USS Morrison was a part of the rescue.

Good stuff…

Mr White,

I’m building the USS Cabot (CVL-28) in the early 50’s when it was a training carrier.

I have a couple of questions about which funnels were removed and what color was the Flight Deck ?

Thank you
