USS Port Royal (US Navy Cruiser)

Hello, I’m usually posting over in the aircraft forum but the time has come and here I am with one question. Where do I find a model kit for USS Port Royal? This ship was my sister’s home during her brief tenure in the US Navy from 1999-2002. Bigger, the better… Many Thanks

There are several models of Ticonderoga class cruisers. The Port Royal was the last of her class, equipped with VLS. At a bare minimum you want one that has that so the ship is recognizable as such, so you need a kit representing CG-52 (Bunker Hill) to CG 73 (Port Royal). I believe that Italrei has a USS Gettysburg out currently that fits into that group. You can get decals from Gold Medal Models to change the hull number. Without doing a lot of research and scratchbuilding this should get you pretty close to the Port Royal. If you want to go nuts, you can get current photos of her and modify the kit accordingly with the lastest sensors - and throw on a good photoetch set -again, Gold Medal makes a nice one for this class.

Cordially,

Kurt

DML/Dragon has a VLS-Tyco cruiser (I believe it’s the Bunker Hill) out in 1/350 scale. The Italrei kit is in 1/700 scale I believe. Take your pick. I’ve seen the DML kit on e-bay for less than $20. Good luck Tim H.[:)]

Give me some more information, Therriman, such as what to type or what words to use as a search parameter? What subject or cagetory would those model kits you are talking about be found at Ebay?

Thanks
Larry

PR, Here’s your search. Go to www.e-bay.com and start narrowing your catagories buy going to Toys&Hobbies: Models: Military: Sea then put 1/350 in the search field. I found 2 Mobile Bay VLS models listed one Item # 3131244037 From Universal Models in Hong Kong. (I’ve bought from them, Shipping expensive, but great service). And Item # 3131558614 (hkmodel) also hong kong. I’ve not dealt with them yet. If you have anymore questions feel free to e-mail me at therrima@gfn.org I will help out all I can. Good Luck
Tim H.
