USS Mount Baker AE-4

Does anyone know if this ship is available in kit form or anything close to it

Navy auxiliaries are rare in the modeling world. Ammo ships even more so. Try a Google search, maybe there is one in resin. There were eight ships in the class, look them up also.

I understand that the Mount Baker is to be used as a target soon.

'Fixer – He’s asking about AE-4, not AE-34. Mount Baker AE-4 was a C2-T (i.e. Tampa-built) cargo ship. Build & launched in 1941 and striken in 1969.

Starting point in plastic could be one of the PitRoad 1:700 scale Liberty ships or the 1:350 scale Jeremiah O’Brien/John Brown. Know going in that some scratchbuilding may be required for the class-specific superstructure, goal post & gun layout.

Another alternative may be the Battlefleet Models C-2 Sea Witch in 1:700 scale resin & brass. It has the correct goal posts & several gun options are available. Being resin, it may be a problem for a novice ship builder.

Sorry, my mistake. [:$]

You could check out Jag. They do a lot of modern USN Vessels although they are in Resin…Cheers Mark

Type C2…no

The C-2 Seawitch is almost a dead ringer for the Mount Baker. There may be some deckhouse modifications required though. The Liberty Ships did not have the same shape or size hull. The C-2 is longer and wider than a liberty.
