uss midway cv 41

Need a little help here. I recently purchased the old Revell kit of this ship and am not sure what color to paint he decks and flight deck. Were they still the dark blue as in WW2 ??

bob,

I was stationed on the USS John F. Kennedy from '81-'85 and noted that the modern aircraft carrier flight decks are painted dark gray, on a model this would simulate the color of the non-skid. Also the decks were painted a lighter grey or deck gray as we called it. I use these sometimes for WWII German armor colors.

Hi Bob, I would recommend using a gray like Gunship Gray for your flight deck. Its the color I use for my decks. It is a good “scale” gray. Please note that carrier flight decks are not all one color. The non-skid surface on the decks is rarely applied all at once. The stuff fades very fast. Check www.news.navy.mil for many photos of carriers. You’ll see that the deck’s color varies from spot to spot. Often in very well defined sharp edged lines where an earlier application of non-skid stopped. Enjoy your Midway. Mike

thanks for the help, folks !
