USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A "Lets see what she's got."

This is the Enterprise refit kit from Polar Lights, which you can make as the refit model from “The Wrath of Khan” or the new starship from ST:IV, ST:V or ST:VI. I’m going for ST:VI. Here some WIP’s.

Hi TigerII, Could you tell me in what scale it comes in? I assume it to be in Polar Lights usual 1/300 or 1/1000 scale. I am more used to the midway scale by AMT or Revell which is around 1/600, since I only have limited space and I rather prefer it because it more or less fits many other models of the TOS/Movie era and are less expensive for my pockets.
The 1/1000 is by far too little to receive proper lighting and effects to it.
Battle damage, as the box suggests, like in “The Wrath of Khan” or “The Search for Spock” is easily applied by the modeler with some advanced modeling skills and usually results in a much better looking finished model.
I would be very grateful if you could clarify this for me.
Have a nice day and always have a bright eye on modeling, our splendid common hobby.

@Crazy-Creator-5601 That one is 1/1000

Thank you, I thought so. I certainly would have preferred a tiny bit larger one, but no matter, I already have at least three of those AMT ones still waiting to be put together and one will certainly show some “TWOK” battle damage as shown in the movie.
Again, thank you for the information and again, let me see how you will proceed with this model. I am really eager to see your progress with this particular model.
All the best.

The one I have is 1/1000 scale. It also comes with decals to replicate the TWOK battle damage. I bought an AMT Enterprise from the TOS, many years ago. I was young and didn’t have any tools that would enhance the kit but the pylon retaining pin was flimsey. Good luck with yours.

This is the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 that I built 3 years ago. It is 1/350. It is huge.

That’s a real beauty right there. Is that the Polar Lights kit?

Yes, Polar Lights. Added the Polar Lights lighting kit, so this was a very expensive build.

Yes expensive but c’mon! Who among us as kids didn’t want what you have built? You have convinced me that I need to do this very soon!

Yes, I agree. Even at my age - definitely not a kid any longer - I am still motivated when building scifi subjects to light them up as much as I can. I did the same with Polar Lights’ 1/350 Klingon K’Ting’a battlecruiser, and with a few of the Star Wars kits I’ve built in recent years, including a tiny Super Star Destroyer. I am currently painting a trio of 3D printed models (Rebel Blockade Runner, Nebulon-B medical frigate, and USCSS Nostromo) that cannot be lit, and I am finding that to be a frustrating reality.

Simply splendid. I would wish I had that kind of space to display such a big model, but the cost of it all, compared to what I have already invested in the Revell one and its complete lighting kit (not by Revell) has already left a dent in my budget and so I will at least be content with what I’ve got.
But indeed, your construction is flawless and stupendous.
Bravo!

I don’t actually have sufficient display space for these monsters. They are on stands, so I can’t hang them from the ceiling like I would with a big WWII bomber. I had donated them to my office, where we had several offices with theming, one of which was a Star Trek room (yes, I work with a bunch of nerds, am one in fact myself…). But they decided recently to rebrand everything in the office, and stuff like these models had to go. I couldn’t very well let them go to a trash can, and didn’t particularly want someone else walking off with them, so I brought them home. Where they have sat atop a work bench shelf, in the way of a lot of things I store there and generally just an annoyance. First world problems.

Well Steven M., space is really the final frontier where no one has gone before, unless he has a dedicated warehouse to do so. In that case he’s one of those who has been there.

But even if they are a nuisance for the time being, they are still a work to be admired and cherished. In time you will certainly find another solution to place them where they fit a bit better.

And the trash bin? Just forget it. All that effort to make it into a masterpiece and throw it all away? Absolutely not. It would be an unforgivable sin.

If ever, and in my very personal opinion, if you shouldn’t find a more favorable solution on where to place your giants, donate or sell them to someone or some institution you trust that might appreciate them as much as you do, and where occasionally, you may revisit them on a regular basis.

After all they are your creation and nobody else’s and therefore such rights to visit them every now and then should be included in the deal.

But all this is up to you to decide. In any case I would rather wish for you to keep them.

Always the best to you and keep doing what you do best: creating models of value. :vulcan_salute: :four_leaf_clover:

Got some work done. Painted and added some clear parts, then Glosscoted the entire kit, for more painting and adding of some decals.

Started to paint some more markings on the starship. I should be starting to apply decals soon.

Well, I started the decal process. I feel it’s easier to do the decals with the ship in pieces although the decals are shiny and a little thick, especially when it comes to the models relief. I see that my Micro Set will get some good use.

I got some more work done with the decals and build. I’m concentrating on the secondary hull first. In case I screw up :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes::wink:, at least it won’t be on the saucer section.

Got some work done. I like the Polar Lights kit, although I feel like their decals don’t adhere as well, especially with some model reliefs. Luckily I feel that the decals for the saucer section will act accordingly.

Things are starting to come together. Still needs some tweaking. Now for the saucer section. I’m looking forward to it.
