USN red lead paint color

What would be a good match (in 1/350) for the red lead paint the Navy used?

Valspar Rusty Red primer in the jumbo rattle-can. Available at Lowes

Sometimes I use Rustoleum red oxide primer in the rattle can. Sometimes it seems a little brown. Also lately I’ve had a lot of problems with Rustoleum cans stopping to work about half way through.

I like British Crimson as a red lead. It is a bit more saturated (reddish) than a red oxide. Red oxide is a popular paint for freshwater hulls, but not for sea-going.

If you like enamels, I use ColourCoats Norfolk 65a Anti-fouling Red for WWII USN ships and Modern USN Anti-fouling Red for more modern USN ships.

I also use coulorcoats anti fouling reds. They look to me just like my ship looked when in drydock for refitting. EJ
