I just opened a bottle of Vallejo Model Air in this color and sprayed a Hellcat…This is more of a sea green, at least in my eyes. Question is, all the pictures I have seen of late war USN aircraft, they are more of a dark blue, ie. in the range of the old Navy P-coats/jackets.
Is this color accurate for late war aircraft, or is something better out there. Don’t have a bottle of MM to compare to on hand or to see if it is the same as the Vallejo stuff.
I guess the only way to really know would be to get a FS fan deck.

According to the research of Dana Bell, there are two versions of GSB.
The wartime version, known as ANA 623, weathered quite quickly. So some time in 1947/48, a new formula was created with more resilient pigments. This new shade is associated with FS 15042.
I have not been able to find an official side by side example to see what difference there is. Those people that own the old Monogram paint chip set state there is a difference, but frustratingly, don’t add further specifics.
I’ve come across three hobby paint brands that label their one bottle as being both paints (Vallejo, Hataka, and MSP). Have also seen statements made whereby the later colour has more green hue to it. Looking at digital samples of ANA 623, and comparing it to the ColorServer FS 15042, I see the opposite:

There is also the FAA Corsair that is still in it’s original paint. In the walk around set of photos, the light/film exposure wrecks havoc with trying to determine the correct shade:

All of the various model company paint brands that I have used of Sea Blue over the years, both gloss and flat, have a hint of green in their versions. As in the photo above of the F4U, it is distinctly different than the “pure” and darker blue of insignia blue. And Sea Blue is certainly different than the Blue Angels Blue which GM mentioned in his post, which is lighter and has no green tint when compared to Sea Blue.
