USN Camouflage, Jan 1943 (SR-2C)

I am building a PV1 Ventura. My subject is an RAAF Ventura, which entered RAAF service with the original USN camouflage (SR-2C).

SR-2C I beleive consisted of flat sea blue, gloss sea blue, intermediate blue and insignia white. The scheme graduated from the top of the aircraft with semi gloss sea blue, intermediate blue and the underside in insignia white. The upper surface of the main and tail plane were painted in semi gloss sea blue. There was a soft edge between the colour transitions.

However, I am not sure about the transition between the fuselage and the upper surface of the main plane. The main plane is semi gloss sea blue and the fuselage at that point is intermediate blue. This position is hidden by the engine in any side view of aircraft.

Can anyone help me with the transition, was it a sharp edge where the main plane joins the fuselage, or was it graduated in like the other transitions.

Thanks

Simon

I’ve built the Academy kit in this scheme. How’s this image:

Thanks!

Looks like the main plane surface is blended into the intermediate blue.

What did you think of the kit?

It’s actually quite good. I only added a few extra details but it builds nice right from the box. Don’t spend too much time on the interior as you can’t see much when you’re done. Seeing as how it’s the only current injection molded Ventura kit around I can definitely say it’s the best!! I painted the uppers all flat, as the gloss didn’t last long in service. I’d guess the pick above is a factory shot, note no squadron numbers. Enjoy the build.

Please post some pics if you can, thx much.
