Want to get some opinions on the following.
Has anyone used paint markers to paint the larger white and yellow flight deck lines on aircraft carrier models?
Or anything else like the black boot waterline stripe or other details?
If so, how good or bad did that work out for you?
And if you did use paint markers, what brands or types (Oil based or Acrylic) would be good to use or not use? What works best?

Unless you have lots of experience with paint markers and a super steady hand, I’d recommend masking and painting by airbrush or hand brush for such types of markings. Paint markers are a great tool, but have their own learning curve and limitations for usage.
I tried a paint marker on the white deck lines on the Doolittle raid USS Hornet and it went very poorly. Running perpendicular to the ridges on the deck made masking a but impossible. Does anyone know of an after market maker of decals for things like this. 3 attempts with no success makes me want to drop this kit.
Thanks

What brand of paint markers did you use? Was the paint oil based or acrylic?
A few months ago, I used Sharpie Creative brand acrylic paint markers for coloring the white and yellow flight deck landing lines on my carrier. They worked pretty good, but I had to make multiple passes when “drawing” the lines cause one coat of the paint wasn’t enough.
Great looking model! Sharpie white oil marker extra fine. I went on ok, but the masking was a waste of time. It a much smaller scale than yours. That might be the reason. The raised strips across the deck made masking impossible.
I don’t use oil based markeres. I tried it once long ago, but with disasterous results. I only use acrylic now. It’s actually very, very rare that I use any sort of paint markers. The carrier that I showed above was more like an “experimental test” to see if paint markers would work for the flight deck lines or not.
Proper masking is important. I only use TAMIYA yellow masking tape.
Testing of different paint markers on different surfaces, fine tip vs. wide tip, oil based vs. acrylic, etc., etc. is also important before trying to use them on the model itself. See what works vs. what doesn’t.
My kids got this set for Christmas last year. I have liberated a few at various times.
Each marker has two ends for fine and even finer work. One of the biggest limitations in this set is the amount of metallics. Some of the colours would be very useful but they are metallic. That said, the black, greys, silver, gold, metal grey and browns have been useful for touch ups and especially chips and scratches.
