I need advice. I’m building a Hasegawa 1/32 scale P-47, and for the first time I would like to try using metal tubing for the machine guns instead of the plastic pieces that come with the kits. Unfortunately , I need to know everything— what kind of tubing is best ?(I’m thinking stainless, but perhaps alum, brass, ??.), what is the correct size for 1/32 scale (or for 1/48 for that matter)?, what’s the best way to cut it to get a clean edge (especially stainless)?, and anything else I need to know about going metal. Thanks,
In answer to one of your questions, brass tubing is fairly easy to work with. I’ve used it quite a bit in the past on some ships I’ve built.
Craft sections of some stores carry a bag of various sizes (diameters). For cutting, you can purchase a small tubing cutter; a razor saw works well too.
I’m not sure how available they would be, but the pins used in cannon plugs for electrical wire bundles are great for gun barrels. They’re used alot on aircraft and I managed to get some when I was in the airforce. I hope my ramblings help.
I noticed in the old thread that I promised an updated list with the tube outside diameters. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to get it in with the proper formating.
If you want te updated table, send me an e-mail and I’ll send it to you.
