Gorilla double stick tape has worked well for me to semi permanently mount models to the base of the acrylic model displays. It’s pretty thick so there will be a small gap between your model base and the display base, but it is not a big deal to me. I don’t like using adhesives, I’d rather have the option of separating everything in case of…who knows?
“A Slimy Slug is invading the Base!” I’m getting the Loader Dozer in the coming days, just need to wait for my scale model dealer to come back from Miami.
Nope, they’re exhibited as my models, out in the open to gather dust.
When it comes to “construction projects”, I’m the type of guy that doesn’t like to spend much on resources and/or doesn’t like to spend a lot of “work” on the project.
If I can get it done faster and cheaper, I will. Does that mean it will be better? I don’t know. Depends on the type of project being done.
So anyway, I went out today and bought some Gorilla double sided sticky tape.
And also below is the wood board I bought days ago and also the black acrylic display base.
Looks like you got it going on! The only person you have to satisfy is yourself. I’m sure it’s going to turn out great!
Ooops. I forgot to mention, the acrylic base is not attached to the wood board yet. I may do that later this weekend. For now, I’m just showing pics of how things might hopefully look.
Your “mock up” looks great. Seems you have got a good plan of action.
Now all yo have to do is figure out where to put the LEDs and the ocean waves

I have some questions on the following if anybody can help out.
The below picture is a rough guide to how I’ll have my carrier (and other items) displayed on the LEGO base. The ship, signage, and display of individual aircraft are NOT attached to the display base. Not yet anyway.
The black acrylic LEGO display base has been permanently attached to the wood board with Gorilla brand double sided sticky tape. I used a LOT. That acrylic base ain’t coming off.
Here’s the main question: How to attach the ship model to the black acrylic base? With glue or use leftover Gorilla double sided tape?
The ship model is permanently glued/attached to the plastic display stand (Red arrow) that came in the TAMIYA model kit box. Now I just need a good way to attach that plastic display stand to the black acrylic base.
The second question is: Best way to attach the informational signage and individual aircraft pieces to the LEGO black acrylic base? With glue, double sided tape, or something else?
As nice as the Gorilla brand double sided sticky tape is, I’m not exactly keen on using it to attach the ship model to the black acrylic display base. God only knows how good the holding power of that tape really is. And what if it loses it’s adhesion qualities over a period of weeks or months due to various factors?
So I’ll take any ideas and suggestions if anybody has any.
I would cut some clear acrylic plates to fit over the signage, and screw them down at the corners. Next I would frame-in the model’s base with acrylic or wood. Attach the frame to the base, then line the insides with the epoxy of your choice, and set the model into it. Make sure the fit from frame to model base is tight. You could build a little clear 5-sided acrylic box to fit over the planes on the display base as well. It’s a bit of work, but would offer security and an additional layer of dust protection for the little stuff. Or maybe a bunch of heavy duty velcro?
